That is the FLDS church which is a perverted and distant offshoot of the Mormon church and has little in common. Warren Jeffs is a sick pig and yes, they fit the sociological model of cult but never made it to a sect or denomination.
They say that Colorado city is beginning to open up and even beginning to splinter a bit from within but I doubt it'll ever be a truly open society or give their members the rights they should have. They instill paranoia of the outside which is their weapon.  They have a very long history down there. Half the city is in Utah and half is across the border so if the Utah cops come they just go over the border.
It would take a federal raid to get them and nobody really wants to pursue it that much.....until now FINALLY!
Just like Al Capone, they get him on taxes and sex.

EDIT:

When most people think of Mormons and polygamy and all that junk they are really thinking of the FLDS church or myths they have been taught or heard. There is nothing 'weird' about Mormons except they don't drink coffee or alcohol and don't smoke.

My parent's other son ( I will never claim this "person" as my brother)  Claims to be a "Mormon".  He does some really freaky shit. All the while claiming to be such a pure person and spouting "The Power of the Priesthood!"

Here's a few examples:

He spends WAY too much time with young boys. A couple of years ago he had a teenage boy with him constantly-When I asked him who the F&*k is that?  His reply was "He's a family friend" He then politely informed me that I was going to hell for cursing  :o

No one else knew who this kid was either  :shruggy:

His wife died a couple of years ago. Ever since then his pre-teen daughter sleeps in the same bed with him every night behind a locked door.

He has no visible means of financial support, but always seems to have plenty of money to buy foreign luxury cars and take long trips to places unknown...

Everything, I MEAN EVERYTHING is a secret, He won't even let his eldest son know where he is half the time...

We catch him telling the WILDEST lies all of the time...

I think he should be in jail for fraud, tax evasion, child molestation, the list goes on...

No one else in the family is a "Mormon"...

That guy has a camp or something near here.  His cult is usually on the local news about once or twice a month for the goings ons in there.  It's a really weird bunch.  Very closed off won't allow anyone to talk to the outside.

I ran into a camp once on a hike.  The first thing was I drove down a forest service trail unil I ran into a gate.  Not a forest service gate by any means.  This thing was locked up tighter than a virgin.   I checked my map and yep I'm on public land yet.  So I go for a hike.  About a half mile into the woods I run into a paramilitary training area.  The place has got a climbing wall a bunch of swing ropes, zip lines, and a small shooting range.  It was also apparent that it saw heavy traffic on a regular basis so I decided that maybe it wasn't such a good idea that I stay there.
When I was just a very young lad I looked up and told my dad, a bareback rider's what I wanna be.  I want the whole world to know about me.  In the rodeo arena I'll make my stand.  I wanna be a rodeo man.  I'll come flyin' from the chute with my spurs up high, chaps and boots reachin' for the sky.  Spurin' wild with my head throwed back, you'll ask 'Who's that,' well that's Bareback Jack.  You'll ask 'Who's that,' well that's Bareback Jack.

Yeah but that can possibly be said about most anyone in any religion and has nothing to do with their church.  I've known of some really weird stuff including incest going on in 'good' catholic families but nobody would dare to think it's got something to do with them being Catholic. That's what's really funny, nobody really dares to question 'the church', it's infallible although it really isn't.
All that tells you is the guy is a weirdo ( perhaps pathological) and not living any Christian or any non Christian religion that I can think of properly since I can't think of one that condones those things. That and maybe he should spend more time in church to begin with.
Maybe he is hiding behind his religion which certainly can't go on forever. I can tell you that if some of that stuff was substantiated he would be excommunicated in a heartbeat.
See, the problem is that people latch onto that junk and then think that it has something to do with a religion when in fact it's the man. This especially happens if you don't understand the religion or have already formed a bias. It comes very easily when you look for it but no religion makes you infallible which is the whole point of going to a church. Mormons are not perfect and don't claim to be contrary to some belief, they are no different than anyone else and have the same troubles.
There are freaky people in all groups and you have to look at a group as a body and see what it stands for to get a real feel for it.
I know people who are Baptist, Mormon, Catholic, Episcopalian, Hindu and several others including atheist and agnostic and still can't find anything substantial against any of them due to a religious belief system although I know a baptist minister who is quite shady if not downright a crook and actually fits several of the things you mentioned including boys. That doesn't mean that all baptists or baptist ministers are bad. It just tells me that the man has problems.
I could tell you some really weird stuff about Mormons or Catholics etc as I'm sure we all could but it has nothing to do with their church since the church body does not advocate the behavior.
Some are good and some are frankly, weird and a disgrace.  I'm not one to preach to anyone and in fact I'm currently only loosely associated with Mormonism  but I do like people to be fair, honest and reasonable in their thinking. I'm not defending just Mormonism, I'll defend any religion that makes people better in general. IMO it's a good thing to have some church in your life even if it's only a little.

I digress though and don't mean to jack the thread about cults.

Interesting stuff for sure, and that guy needs serious help.

If you get a chance, check out the song "Clothes Don't make the Man" By Keith Anderson

Here are the lyrics and the song is just spot on!

My brother's got a black an' white picture
With numbers 'cross his chest
An' he'll do 15 years if his behavior stays at it's best
He took the blame to save his best friends name
When a job that went bad down in Birmingham
Yeah, but he don't mind that orange suit cause he knows that clothes don't make the man

Two cells down from where my brother lays his head
The walls that go Amazing Grace an' quotes of scriptures that man once read
When he prayed upon the little souls of all those boys that did not understand
But you can wear a robe that's laced with gold
But The Clothes Don't Make The Man

Designer names
Rips and stains
Shouldn't tell you who I am
Cause sometimes angels hid their wings
An' the Devil's dressed like a lamb
Yeah, The Clothes Don't Make The Man

They all laughed an called him names when he said that he was sent to be their king
You don't even own a home
You've got simple clothes an' sandals on your feet
Stripped of his pride
He was crucified
On a cross with nails of haterd in his hands
But he rose from the grave in 3 days
Yeah, The Clothes Don't Make The Man

Designer names
Rips and stains
Shouldn't tell you who I am
Cause sometimes angels hid their wings
An' the Devil's dressed like a lamb
Yeah, The Clothes Don't Make The Man

Designer names
Rips and stains
Shouldn't tell you who I am
Cause sometimes angels hide their wings
An' the Devil's dressed like a lamb
Yeah, The Clothes Don't Make The Man

They don't make the man
They don't make the man
They don't make the man
Woo...
Yeah...
Whoa, don't make the man
Don't make the man, yeah
Ohh...
Yeah-eahh...

Believe me I know a lot of hypocrites who claim to be "men of God" and I know some people who truly are.

Just because a person is a "licensed" pastor/preacher does not mean they are beyond reproach.

By the same token, if somebody doesn't go to a Church (Which is just a building remember) doesn't mean they don't know God.
Self righteousness is one of the worst types of hypocrisy. It leads to indignation and the belief that you are RIGHT and can not possibly be wrong. No matter the circumstance.  Some people just believe they are smarter than everyone else and nobody can figure out what they are up to. Even when it is painfully obvious.

Here you go.  this is the kind of thing I was referring to:

http://www.truechristian.com/masturbation.html

Looks like we're all going to hell!

"Masturbation costs American businesses at least $3.14 billion in lost productivity every month!"

Gee, I wonder how they got their numbers and info?
How would you like to be the one who compiles this data?

" Ok, it looks like we lost another $10.00, Steve is whacking off in his cubicle again"

Myth: Masturbation is harmless.
Reality: Christianity proves that chronic Masturbation causes weakness, depression, forgetfulness and nearsightedness.

I forget what we are talking about here, remind me.

(I'm afraid that their assertions would never hold up to the scrutiny of real science, more brainwashing propaganda)

Turns out the page was a Hoax GTX... My fault for linking to the first thing I see.  Read into the site further and you'll see.

As a teenager, I lived in a small town in Upstate New York called Red Hook. Just a few miles away was a Unification Church Seminary. Memebers of the Unification Church were referred to as "moonies" and the Church was publicly accused of brainwashing its members.
My friends and I enjoyed "after indulging in a few brewskis" driving up to the security gate at the facility and asking for directions to the "brainwashing facility". The security guards were not at all amused.  Of course after that we would slam the car in reverse, lay some tire and get the heck out of there.

GOOD!

Well, sort of. Looks like the only loser is the insurance company:

"Amway has said it acted quickly to quash the rumor and the company was dismissed from the case, leaving the four ex-distributors, who are protected by liability insurance against the judgment, Haugen said."

Which in reality means the other people who have policies with that insurance co get to pay when their rates are increased and the insurance company passes it to them.
