I was wondering
I went to look at a car that needs rebuilt from the ground up and is missing the engine transmission, center console and side scoop as well as the grill but the bodies good and it's a 69 R/t. is it worth $4,800, and would this be biting off way to much for my first car? And  I know those parts are hard to get but are they holy grail hard? How much do you think I'd be looking at to get it running doing most of the work myself afte buyin parts and stuff..

Well my first car needed a full resto just like the one your looking at except mine had an engine and tranny. Id say get it.

Hard to tell without looking at it. It also depends on how much you are doing. You won't know about the body till all the paint is removed. A complete resto with you doing it say around 15K? roughly depending how deep you go. That is approx what I am dealing with and I started with a complete and fairly solid car. That is not including the car since i bought it  29 years ago.

Well there is no paint on here and surface rust, these pics are terible and mostly just pics of the bad stuff...he said there was minimal bondo to make it look straighter, not from removing rust. Hey this car's completly taken appart...how hard is it to get all the nuts and bolts?

Maybe it is a 70? (69 doesn't have side scoops?),

looks like a 70 as it has  the larger rear side marker lamp holes  :yesnod:

Yep. Better look at the title before you shell out any cash. Im a old school cheap skate......1000 max.......from what you said and the pics. But I don't buy 1000 dollar grills either.

The tittle is clean...
how much is this big of a project usually priced at for a R/T?

I think he is saying to check the title because it is probably a 70 and not a 69.  Personally I think a 70 is not worth as much as a 69.

The70RT

That is what I was saying - the year. They made half as many 70 R/T's then 69's but 69's usually go for more...go figure?

if that';s a true 70 R/T and everything checks out,. JUST based on the quarter panel shots alone i don't think his $4800 asking price is unreasonable at all. hey if you're gonna spend big bucks on a project car, may as well get an R/T from the get go. it costs the same to restore a 440 car as a 318 car(for the most part) and it's worth WAY more when done.

Very true, a 318 Charger can cost the same as a big block (especially if it is a bare body shell).  The value on the project in question depends upon many factors (completeness, options on the fender tag, rarity, etc.).  I would say $4800 is about right on the money (if not a little cheap) for it.  1970 Charger RTs are good projects to work on......

And maybe it's just me, but it seems like a clean title on a project car is getting to be a more uncommon thing these days too.
