I have narrowed my cam down to a solid mechanical flat tappet.  Here are the two I am looking at;
Comp Cam 294S 248@.050 .525 lift or Mopar purple cam 284 duration with .528 lift.

I like the shorter duration and more lift but I was wondering the trade off between these two grinds.

Thanks for any helpful replies.

Robert, what's the combo ? stall ? gearing ? tire diameter ? Engine displacement ?

It is a 383 bored out .060 stroked out to 496, edelbrock rpm heads, offenhauser tunnel ram with two edelbrock 500, msd ignition 6al,        1 7/8" hooker super comp headers and 2 1/2" exhaust, 2500 to 2800 stall (depends on the cam), 3.91 suregrip, and 28" tires.

500 cubes is a lot of engine to feed....you'll want 250*.050 minumum duration. The Comp XS290S would be a descent choice for an "off the shelf" grind to work with the rest of your combo. For a converter, a nice 10in (tight) street/strip unit from Turbo Action would be my choice.  :yesnod:

The 294s "magnum" cam in your first post would also work but it would idle slightly worse than the xs290s and make less power....it is an older "slow ramp" profile.
