I know it would never happen but what would happen if every gas station owner in the US conspired to hold the price of regular at say $1.75/gal.? Wouldn't it effectively amount to a strike? Would the govt. send in the troops and force them to up the prices? What would happen?

Wouldn't there would have to be a reason why they would WANT to do that.
like the mother of invention hard to have an egg with out a chicken...
only prices i see going down are for chinese made cars..

Like I said, it would never happen, but I don't think station owners like paying $2.85/gal. any more than we do. Maybe they would like to make a point and they are the only ones with the means to do it?

Let's not get too analytical here. It's not like I'm espousing that global warming is your fault or anything. :icon_smile_cool: I'm just wondering what the oil companies and/or govt. would do in response to a fictional scenario?

the only problem is that they aren't paying 2.85 a gallon they are pay a heck of a lot less and making a huge profit...I know I was a manager at a gas station years ago.  Before prices were so high.  We made over 100% profit on what we paid out.

a friend of mine owns a gas station, and they hardly make anything on gas, they're counting on you to stop in and buy cigs, snacks and anything else they sell.

Maybe that is the case in their store, but we didn't sell anything else, no cigs or food/drinks until a month before I left.  And we were making bank.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?
