Comedian Richard Jeni commits suicide

Just saw it on the FoxNews wire today- comedian Richard Jeni apparently commited suicide yesterday- taking a gun and shooting himself in the face! 

He survived the initial attempt, but died in the hospital soon afterwards.  That's a damn shame- I really thought he was a fantastic comedian, with both HBO comedy specials he had.  "Platypus Man" and "A Big Steaming Pile Of Me" were side-spittingly funny and ones you just HAD to record on the VCR or DVR.  He was one hilarious guy from Brooklyn.  I'm saddened to hear of his demise.  I know that the very best comedians have the saddest tales to tell about their lives, but this is just tragic. 

First it was Boston frontman, Brad Delp, now it is funnyman, Richard Jeni. 

I wonder who will complete the star-crossed "tragic trifecta"?

he was a great guy!!! really funny!!! his mother (JENI)  is where he got his stage name from, he took his mom's first name as his last for a stage name. she was my dad's secretary for 15 yrs or so on Wall St (NYC). really sweet woman!!! my heart & prayers go out to the family!!!!

   He played Jim Carries best friend/co-worker at the bank in the movie "Mask"

What I cant believe is so many people not knowing him! I know he wasnt quite on the popularity level as Jim Carrey ,but wow, Ive liked his comedy for years...very funny guy. Such a shame when folks loose sight of what accomplishments theyve had and choose to end it all. Not cool....
