Im working on getting one of my 73s on the road.  This was a 318 car with A/C so its got a 26" radiator.  It now has a 400 in it.  Do I need a new radiator or will this one keep it cool enough?

Ghoste

It's probably fine.  How many cores are in it?

Just pull off the rad cap and look down in there.  You'll see slots laid out in rows.  Count how many rows front to back (that is, with the slots viewed as end to end).  My guess is that it's a two core but if it's three, you should have no trouble with it.

Charger1973

Ok its a 2 core then.  I looked up the part number on lightningjar.com and it come back as this:

3673027  73 B-BODY 340 LATE SYLE 26" RADIATOR

So maybe I should just try it out and see what happens?  I didnt put this motor in the car, it was done by the previous owner so it must have been ok for him?

Ghoste

I'd try it first, assuming it isn't all plugged up it should be okay.  If it isn't enough, get an extra row or two put in there when you get it recored.

Charger1973

Sounds good!  I will do that when I take it in.  Thanks.

Hey do you by chance know what this valve thing is?  The radiator that is in the car is plugged up so I am going to switch it out with this one.  They were both from 73 318 cars and both have the same part number on them, but one has this valve and the other doesnt.  The one with the valve came from a car with California Emissions so maybe it has something to do with that?  I just dont know what its for or what to do with it since this car doesnt have that.

Ghoste

It's just an aftermarket cap.  The valve is so you can vent pressure when it's hot before removing the cap.

Charger1973

No not that, sorry should have been more specific.   The valve on the side of the tank, with the 2 nipples for like air line hoses to attach to.

Ghoste

Ooops, sorry.  Man I have no idea what that is.  How about just a plain old coolant recovery connection?

Charger1973

Oh well, thanks for the help.  I will just go to bed and hope that by the time I get up someone who knows what the heck that is will have seen this and responded.   :yesnod: :icon_smile_cool:
