Ghoste

Haven't those turned up on 440 cars before?  Seems to me I recall something about that in one of Goviers columns for whatever magazine.  I'm probably wrong though.  :shruggy:

Alain426

i mean by there that the car got the heavy duty suspension, with front sway bar, torque box, rear 6 and 7 leaf spring, anyway  you what im talking about:)  the stronger suspension and frame reinforcement for big block power :icon_smile_cool:

i listed the car on ebay, cause i dont see the time to have it done, it the car sell, it will make a happyli new owner, and if not, i will do my best to restore it with the time and cash that i have and go take some picture with the other triple green charger built 2 car before mine ;D

i had a really interesting trade offer from ron, unfortunatly, i think i cannot dispose of the missing found tu buy is wonderfull charger, so i wait still one week to see some other offer, and like i said, if the car doesnt sell, i,ll keep in and restore it and enjoy driving it

Alain426, I feel for you. What a sad thing you may have to do. :pity:
Nothing personal, just business

Alain,
You got my support in whatever you decide to do! :icon_smile_cool:
Im kinda' in the same boat as well. :-\
My car also has torque boxes....
1971 Charger R/T   GY9 Dark Gold Metallic, V1Y Gold Top, GY4 Light Gold Interior- A/C, Rimblow, PW, Front Disc, AM-FM, Tach, Light Package, Slotted Tips, Trailer Tow Package(MIA)and a few other odds and ends...including a luggage rack!

Ok this is going to sound dumb but...  what are torque boxes?  I see them in the link, behind the leaf spring but..  what is their purpose?  Why do only Hemi cars (supposedly) have them? Can they be bought and installed (aftermarket)?  Would they fit a 73/74?  Sorry for all the questions but im just curious.....

Alain, I know exactly where you're coming from. I put mine up for sale more than once through the years, when money got tight. However, this was in the early/mid 90's & nobody wanted to pay what I felt it to be worth & I wasn't gonna give it away, so I kept it. I couldn't afford to do a stinkin' thing to it, but I've still got it. :)
I'm glad I didn't sell it...even thought mine's a 318 car, it would be hard for me to buy one like it today. One day soon, I'll be able to get going on it, until then, it's my garage queen. :icon_smile_approve:

Good luck with your decision, I hope it works out well for you.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

torque box is a shield welded on frame area where front spring brackets is bolted. This shield "boxes" the area and makes a stronger frame where spring is attached to support HiPo engine and its torque

http://www.marlia.com/charger/chargermechanicalslide/slides/DSCN0019(3).html

and yes... you can make it on 73/74 too, since structurally, is the "same" frame

The "shield" does have an access hole to keep the access to spring bracket nuts.

Matt you can get them from Harm's Auto.  http://www.harmsauto.com/  This is something I plan to do to mine as well as the sub frame connectors.    Suppose to help a lot.

Alain426

thanks for the comments guy, i feel weird this time, some time i want to sell to get a driving car, and sometime i wish i will be able to see the finished product, that im 100% sure it will look terribly good

the torque box were standard on hemi and convertible,  and some 440 (as well as the 3/8 fuel line, 6 and 7 leaf spring and some other detail i already read on a special hemi in the mopar muscle magazine)

and i still wish to find the cash to buy ron's charger

what is special about this triple green charger, is that the second car made before mine, are located in ontario (a triple green too) and ron could be able to get both car together at car show :yesnod:

so i keep thinking about this

bye  Alain

mikesbbody

hey alain, did you have another 71 rt charger at some stage? or am i thinking of someone else? the one im thinking of was hemi orange (i think) and possibly a 6 pack too. it had a full resto.

Keep in mind that my intentions are not to keep the Charger Stock. I'm looking at building a Resto Mod with a totally  Modern suspension and Drivetrain. The Body and colour would most likely remain the same but  road race front/rear spoilers would be added as well as some minor exterior cosmetic Changes. I'm going for a Street Fighter look. (See Aggressive)
Tom's  Triple Green R/T (Sister Car) on the other hand is being restored as Stock,(he has a complete #s matching Charger)
We would have  Jekyl and Hyde Chargers living  less than 1 mile apart.

no, i dident have any other cars,  but i know that the owner of the other charger, have another 71 r/t, but dont know much more about it

and, ron, i had two idea with the charger,

my previous car was a 71 dodge dart swinger, and i had put a 360  fuel injected in it  with tubular upper arm, billet coil over...... and much more

i loved this car so much, that my plan was to upgrade my next car with a 5.7 hemi

but i found this 71 r/t, and now i hesitate

my plan was to put a 5.7 in it, and modernize the brake, suspension, but keeping the triple green and exterior look stock, exept for a set of 17inch magnum 500 replica

but was make me hesitate, its that my car is a real R/T, will i affect the value of the car if i put a different powertrain in it?, i know its not number match anymore, i less afraid to do it, if someone else  like you, are ready to do it anyway

hehe my head will explode, i will see at the end of the auction, if the car sell, it will be the end of some problem, and probably the beginnint of some others :yesnod:

and if it dosent sell, i will see what i will do with it, ironicly, its less expensive to modify the car than put all factory original parts (reproduction parts are expensive)
hehe lets follow the auction or some offer to trade  (p.s., im still trying to find the missing money)  :icon_smile_cool:

Alain426

the charger has been sold yesterday, i had a good offer from a guy from montreal

so the car become closer to his sister charger

i will write to you  ron and tom, to give you the new owner information, he want to discuss with tom to have some information about his car

and for me, i will buy another muscle car, i want a car in driving condition, so, i will looking for this tis spring:)

Big Sugar

Thanks Alain.

Happy things worked out for you. Hope you find the Charger your looking for ! I'll send you a pic of Tom's Charger when I see it next, Should be soon. He wants to be Done for next Spring.

Ron
