Updated pics - white decals for my 71 Bee

71 Bee Man

G'day guys,

well, after putting the white stripes on the side of my Bee, I figured it was too late to back out of going all the way. Whilst I hated them at first, I grew to love the white stripes, so the next thing was to make the hood decal white also.

And here it is.

I'm still undecided about leaving the hood insert black, but it can wait for the time being. I must admit that since doing the hood decal in white, the car attracts a lot more looks and comments, which is really saying something seeing as there's only about half a dozen 71's in the country.

Anyway, here's the pics.....ready for your comments, good or bad. :icon_smile_big:

Paint the insert white.  Looks better than it did with the black hood and white side stripes.  I kinda like it now but...  it definately needs to have the insert painted to match.

Y'know something.....I agree completely, but my wife reckons I'm an idiot if I paint it white also. :icon_smile_evil:

I'd like to paint the insert white, but leave the sections where the 383 badges are bolted, black. I think that would break up all the white, and look pretty good. Worst case is I'll paint it white, not like it and have to redo it. The white really lifts the car - you can't help but notice it as it drives down the road - I like it. :yesnod:

Good call on the black areas, I like that idea.  I say go for it, its only paint.  You already went this far, might as well finish the job.    :yesnod: ;D

Your Charger screams look at me!!! I like it  :2thumbs:

konigcharger

i think it will grow on me :-\

IMO, if you paint the insert it will be too much white

If you have no vision or creative spirit, you can always fall back on the way the factory did it.

Big Sugar

I'd leave it Black , If your gonna paint it , go Body color. For me though it looks great the way it is right now !

Nice Charger!!

Awesome. The white is very seventies - I like it.

I definitely would not paint the insert white. If anything at all, just do the surrounding areas (not the depressions or "grilled" part) silver, or body colour as previously stated.

Awesome car!

TruckDriver

I like the black insert. White would be to much. I think the black offsets the rear spoiler.  :yesnod:

hi peter, i aways thought you should go for it (white stripes) and now i see it it looks awesome! about the insert i would iether 1. leave it black or 2. do what big sugar said and paint it body color there is another option remember that fiberglass place in canada? you could buy a repo insert (that way there would be no regrets about painting it) you could start buy painting it white, then try the body color.
just remember, with the black you have the wheels/tires and the rear spoiler in black so the black insert kinda goes with them imo whatever you do it will look cool but if you get that repo insert you have the option of changing the color whenever you want.

G'day guys,

thanks very much for all the feedback. It's funny that the things you all mentioned were mentioned by different people here as well. For example, most guys at work said leave it black, a couple said paint it white, and then one guy suddenly suggested "Hey, what about body color".

I think for the time being she can stay black. As mentioned it offsets the rear wing and the wheels. I'm also going to Australias largest Mopar show this coming Friday and just want to tidy the car up before the 7 hour drive to get there. They usually get around 500 cars - mostly Australian Mopars but quite a big contingent of U.S stuff these days.

I'll try and get some pics for everyone. :yesnod:

Again, thanks for all the comments - really appreciated. It's funny how I hated the white when I first had it done, but now I'm really glad I did it.

This is a very nice Charger. But, since you're asking...I'm going to disagree with everyone!!   I really, really like the thumbnail picture before any of the changes you made. I think the black side stripes/black hood decal looks MUCH better. I actually thought it was a cool, unique look, and I'm guessing that's how it left the factory??  Hey I'm not a Mopar Saint.... I'm also guilty of making the same type of color variation (changing a black interior to white) in my case.  Most of us have taken some creative liberties with our cars, so I say its your car and it should be enjoyed by YOU ~  its only white tape - no worries!

Charger1973

The insert itself should not stand out.  The depressions and grilles yes, but not the actual insert.  I think if you painted the insert white but left the grilles and depressions black you would have it just right.   You should test it out with photoshop and see, but I really think thats the way to go.  If you want more black to offset the rear spoiler, add a front spolier.   :P

Charger1973

Ok well all I have is paint shop but you get the idea.  Heres a comparison shot.  I would do it this way if it was my car.... You could leave the inserts black or maybe go body color with them?

Since you asked I must say while white IS different it's not better in my opinion. I would have stayed with black. Sorry

Beautiful car just the way it is. I would leave the black insert. You'll lose all the detail in it if it's white.

Arthu®

I like the white very very very very much! Tough call on the insert, I am not sure on either of the options Charger1973 gave like Jen said in white it loses all the detail but it also looks smoother which I like. I am undecided.

I still have reservations about my decision to go with the white, but in saying that, I've just come back from the paint shop after getting some touch up paint mixed, and people were just "gobsmacked" by how good the car looks. The white, whist being very "loud", really attracts more attention.

Maybe one day I'll revert back to the black decals, but for now I'm going to enjoy them. I love original vehicles, but as I mentioned to some other people, I'm about the only person in Australia with a 71 Superbee, so no-one is going to be comparing notes with me. There's a couple of others that I know about,m but they're on the other side of the country. :icon_smile_big:

Thanks for taking time to edit that picture Charger1973. A while ago I edited a smaller picture with the white insert, and I too thought it looked good.

After the show this coming weekend I may play with some paint and see how it looks. Just driving around as is looks pretty good for the time being. Also did some more engine bay detailing this week - coming along nicely.

Incidentally, just been reading an old Mopar Muscle with a green 73 Charger in it......really nice pictures and a beautiful looking car. The 3rd Gen cars can really shine when they're looked after and done right.

No problem.  I really think that paint scheme but with body color inserts would be the best.  If you look at the super bee logo it has body color in the background so it would match perfectly.   :yesnod:
