does anyone know whats a good size rim  for a 73 charger in a torq thrust rim ,i found this picture on this site and was looking for it owner to ask what size rims he has that car looks bad ass.

I believe the wheels on the car in your picture are Stockton TQ's and not AR TT II's. I had the TQ's on my car and attached is a picture. As far as size? Anything from a 15" to 18" diameter is possible. I'm not sure what the maximum diameter is for a TT II. Width? Maybe an 8" to 10" in the rear with 4.5" backspacing. Fronts? 7" or 8" with 4.5 backspacing as well. 4.5" backspacing seems to be the mean dimension for a "stock" Charger wheel well. It all depends on the look your trying to achieve and if your car is modified to allow a wider, taller wheel / tire combination. Also take into consideration the stance you want. Good luck.

PS: Rims, not rems. Spellcheck is your friend.  ;)

Hey Gator, your car looks mean just by the pic of the back tire

Looking for another Third Gen Charger

73chargers4404

im looking for a low tire profile, like the purple charger in the top picture ,i dont know what i need to acheive this, there is a place here that has 15x7s,  but i dont know if i can get the look i want ,.i would like to have about 4" to 6" of tire above the  rim.if anyone can help me that would be great .thanks Brian

dkn1997

This is my 2nd gen with 16" tqII's.

245/50/16 in front, 295/50/16 in the rear.

While I am happy I went with larger than 15 inch, I wish I had gone with 17's.  I don't think they made them 10 years ago when I did this, but 16" tire sizes are limited.  only 3 company's even make 295/50's, BFgoodrich and Cooper and mastercraft.

I don't consider 4" to 6" above the rim to be a "low profile" tire.

Go to www.newstalgiawheels.com and pick a tire that would fit the diameter wheel you want. Most tire sites have the overall height of the tires they sell listed. Choose a tire that has a height that would give you the 4" to 6" sidewall your looking for. Example: 235/45ZR17 tire has a height of 25.3" . Subtract 17" (diameter of chosen wheel) and you have 8.3". Divide that in half (for sidewall height) and you have a sidewall height of 4.15"  Hope this helps.  ;)

PS: Don't forget about tire width, wheel backspacing, and inner and outer wheel well clearances. Also consider the stance you want and the how much or how little space you want at the top of the wheel opening.

Off the top of my head 4.5" backspacing gives good clearance both for the inside and outside of the wheel well.  The large bolt pattern is 5 X 4.5". Anyone else?

i ordered a set of 16" rims today ,but the only size back spacing they had in the size i wanted was the 4"back spacing but the guy called american racing and they said it would work fine,do you guys think i will have any problems?

dkn1997

I run 4.5" backspace, works fine.  If 3rd gen wheel wells are close to 2nd gen, then with that backspace, I would not try for bigger than a 275 widtch tire in the rear.  as far as cost, I run coopers and they were about 110 bucks each.

Next on my list might be a set of 16 or 17" cheapie steelies from summitt.  I have some 16" tires kicking around and it would be nice to swap to some mean lookin nascar type wheels once in a while.
