Report: Captain America dies on the page
Wed Mar 7, 2:41 PM ET

"NEW YORK - Captain America has undertaken his last mission — at least for now.

The venerable superhero is killed in the issue of his namesake comic that hit stands Wednesday, the New York Daily News reported. On the new edition's pages, a sniper shoots down the shield-wielding hero as he leaves a courthouse.

It ends a long run for the stars-and-stripes-wearing character, created in 1941. Over the years, some 210 million copies of Captain America comic books, published by New York-based Marvel Entertainment Inc., have been sold in 75 countries.

But resurrections are not unknown in the world of comics, and Marvel Entertainment Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada said a Captain America comeback wasn't impossible.

Still, the character's death came as a blow to co-creator Joe Simon.

"We really need him now," said Simon, 93, who worked with artist Jack Kirby to devise Captain America as a foe for Adolf Hitler.

The superhero was spawned when a scrawny arts student named Steve Rogers, ineligible for the army because of his poor health but eager to serve his country, agreed to a "Super Soldier Serum" injection. The substance made him a paragon of physical perfection, armed only with his shield, his strength, his smarts and a command of martial arts.

In the comic-book universe, death is not always final. But even if Captain America turns out to have met his end in print, he may not disappear entirely: Marvel is developing a Captain America movie."

If anyone wonders how he dies then read below; Personally I know he'll be brought back! 90% of super heroes killed in the comics were brought back and Captain America is one of the oldest!

SPOILER ALERT!

He gets shot by a sniper on the way out of a courthouse... nothing special, no big fight with a super villians... just BANG! THUD!

I've got a complete run through about 1992.

One of my favorites. The movie is supposed to come out in 2009.

konigcharger

yeah

"it was like watching a rock fall, or a big sandbag or something-- just boom, then down--not like the movies where the dead guy rolls around and does fancy spins and goes ass over teakettle--not like that, , the poor bastard just flat-f#@k fell. Boom. Down. Nothing else."

:o

If you have no vision or creative spirit, you can always fall back on the way the factory did it.

I've seen all the marvel movies; From Xmen to Blade to Ghost Rider and for die hard comic book fans the movies are alwasy let downs cause they don't follow the books! If you watch them as movies with your favorite comic book character in them and not for the story line then they are good movies.

There was a live action Captain America movie made awhile back in 1990 I think as well.

Interesting Marvel Movie Fact #1: Nicolas Cage is a die hard Marvel comic book fan! The last name "Cage" was taken from one of his favorite comic book characters "Luke Cage".

Interesting Marvel Movie Fact #2: Nicolas Cage named his first son with his current wife Kal-El, as in Superman's REAL name. Kal-El is his second son.

Interesting Marvel Movie Fact #3: For the movie Ghost Rider, Nicolas Cage had to have his Ghost Rider tattoo covered for the movie since Ghost Rider is another of his favorite marvel characters.

Interesting Marvel Movie Fact #4: He was once attached to play Superman in a film to be directed by Tim Burton. Cage even did fittings of the costume, but the project died due to budget and screenplay concerns.

Interseting Marvel Movie Fact #5: Nicolas was Director Sam Raimi's first choice to play Norman Osborn/Green Goblin in the movie Spider-Man.
