Will a 71 grille fit a 74? My gille is beyond repair and I have a chance of picking up one from a 71.

Nacho-RT74

yes, definitelly. All 3rd gens grilles are interchangeable, including hideaways with the right brackets setup

Are you sure?  I know the openings are the same size but I thought the brackets were different?  Also heard that there is a difference in the headlight buckets.  Anyone know?

Well I know it will fit inside the bumper just not sure if the mounts are the same and the depth of the headlight buckets.  Ive never tried to swap a standard grille, but I did put a set of 72 hideaways on my 73.

Nacho-RT74

I have seen them interchanged hundred of times on the web and personally down here ( even never done by myself ). Beam pedestal are the same between regulars. Just hidden beams pedestals are shorter

I was to post something about this reply before hurt some feelings, but noticed was too late... anyway will do...

No, I'm not, just know a little bit based mostly on my own experience and lot of websites info, but not everything on personal experiences. I frequently make mistakes.

Please don't post stuff like that because ppl will think that I AM WHO IS SAYING THAT, and I never have used or posted to myself that tittle.

I bought a set of 71 grilles from a member here on the site and he stated that he had bought them for a 73 or 74 car and that they wouldn't fit. Seems like he said that the screw holes didn't align up. I haven't had time to try them on my 74.
Besides, I thought that the headlamps on the 73-74's stuck out further.

Brackets have couple of square holes to fit the fastener on right position and match with grilles holes. at leats 73/74 have the holes.

As stated never have done it but have seen DOZENS of Chargers with interchanged grilles on web, and have seen them personally down here, but I haven't done personally.

73/74 grilles sit slightly further because the bumper filler assembly, but IF headlight fillers are still enough stretched or flexible 71/72 beams will fit on it without problem.

71/72 on 73/74 is lot easier.

Those are my thoughts

I didn't win the bid on Ebay, quit at $200 Canadian. I'm still curious if the 71s fit on a 74. Hotrod98, maybe you can let us know after you try them.
Thanks everyone.

I think this pic will help. 72 Grill on 73 Charger

71/72 are same setup... same as 73/74. So if 72 fits on 73, then 71 will fit on 74.  :yesnod:

Notice bumper fillers are there, same as 73 bumper. This Charger is located in Holland, and I have serious doubts that owner changed other stuff that just the grills.
