Has anyone used a 700R4 in their Charger? I have deceided to get one for mine, and was curious as to how difficult it was to install. They do make adaptors to do the swap. I have talked with Keisler about their transmissions, and they are a nice product, but they are so expensive.

why not just get an A518?  I know they make those swaps, moparts.com has a thread on it somewhere.  I got pics from the guy who modified the housing to fit in a b body.  not hard, afterall, its a 727 with an OD.

my experience with 700R4 transmissions is not pleasant. Ive had nothing but troubles with them. and fresh rebuilds of them. Lets just say they dont like plow trucks without a ground strap. It fries the clutches. if i hadnt see nit i wouldnt have beleived it.

But basically try a A518. stay mopar and its a better trans.

there was a really good article in mopar muscle about the kiesler tranny swap, and it is a 700r4 or what ever the gm name is for it now-i have been considering one for my car,but i thinkim going to go with the 5 speed conversion instead for similar money

What vehicles came with the A158? And what would the coversion cost roughly? Anyone here done it????

eeeehm I don't know the numbers but it does look you are talking about modern trannies on our cars. A friend of mine installed a mid 90s Dodge Ram tranny on his 70 cuda with stroked 340 engine. Just did need to modify the rear small section of crossmember where tranny mount fits.
Venezuelan RT 74 400 4bbl, 727, 8.75 3.23 open. Now stroked with 440 crank and 3.55 SG. Here is the History and how is actually: http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,7603.0/all.html

The reason for a 700R4 is that I can get a fresh rebuilt one for next to nothing. Someone I know has it. The 700R4 is a very good transmission. I have had several of them in my Camaros and Trans Ams with never a bit of trouble. It does not bother me to use a GM transmission. If I went with a Keisler, I would be buying a GM transmission anyway.

700's are a great tranny, ive built plenny. first , get one made between 88 and 93 . these are the last years of there production and have most of the upgrades in them. do a 2-3 shift kit made by trans-go. it will really make her hit hard in all gears. then you can install a valve , not sure what the part # is but it will eliminate the electronics. then you can use the tranny in anything. but do not just unplug the electronics without this valve body upgrade or she'll go up in smoke. i've got one in a diesel powered van ,put over 90K on her and she still kicks you in the but when she shifts. anyway let us know how things go :yesnod: TK
