Local junk yard has two 1970 Coronets that still have the flat hoods left on them that are original paint and no rust more serious than surface rust. I don't need them but was wondering if they are worth grabbing and bringing to a Mopar Swap meet as I wouldn't want to ship them. The price is 75.00 each and I have to take them off. I have already grabbed the other good stuff off them which wasnt much. What will be a fair asking price as they aren't really desireable except to a Superbird /Clone owner? Thanks Great site!!

Fenders and hoods are desirable. The hoods don't bring a lot of money, but they will bring some. I've seen perfect hoods go for between $100 and $300 in the last year and perfect fenders will bring up to $600 a pair. I saw a perfect set of fenders at Topeka go for $500 and an almost perfect set go for $600 last fall at St. Louis. I just bought a hood and fenders that needed work for $300 this last fall. Would like to have found some that were perfect, but kept procrastinating at St. Louis until it was too late. I do that a lot.
I say buy them, definitely.

This is the problem with smoking crack !!!!!!! NOS , BS , did anyone else notice the rust pits , and oh yea the part # ! I know that other member will defend him and say its a good deal !!!!!!!!

If you want to make any kind of prophet, my suggestion would be to clean up the rust, skim if needed and prime them up ready for paint.  A little effort on your part will garner more cash IMO.

Good luck

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

BigBlackDodge

I'd get them for that. :yesnod:

Aren't Superbird hoods modified Coronet hoods? Might be able to re-sell them for clone projects.

I know what I've seen in the last year in the way of prices and there is no way in hell that someone would buy an NOS coronet fender for that kind of money to convert into a Superbird fender. I mean it's not a Superbird fender, it's a coronet fender and there's a lot of difference. I know where there's a pair of near NOS coronet fenders right now for $500 each.

Your all missing the scam , look close , real close , NOS??????????????????????????????????????? BS

Old Moparz

Just because the part number is still on it doesn't actually mean it's NOS. I had a pair of very clean, rust free, 1969 Barracuda fenders that both came off the same car. One had factory undercoating & one didn't. (Man that undercoating weighs a lot) The one without the undercoating had the part number stenciled on the inside. All that tells me is that it was likely a replacement fender that ended up on the car when fenders were still avaiable.

Maybe these are NOS, but after being stripped, etched, & primered, at what point is it better than a good used part?

Actually, I didn't miss that. It was funny that he mentioned that the other NOS fender wasn't ready yet. Maybe he thinks NOS stands for something else.
Maybe.......N ot     O verly       S caley.

I'm assuming that your refering to me as the other member? I won't say its a good deal. It is a good looking fender though. NOt worth that kind of money to me. Heck I paid less than that for a complete charger that was a running car. Does that make the fender horrible? NO. Does that mean that you could repro one that is better? NO.

I'd keep going but enough threads get locked as it is.

I hope you have something under the corners at the rear edge of those hoods to cushion them. I've seen more hoods that were bent, scraped, & filed down flat when they are stored & handled like that. I have all of my hoods & spares on left or right sides & a few have cardboard wrapped & taped to the corners. Especially the '70 Plymouth Air Grabber hood.

I did see someone at a swap meet once, drag his hood across pavement on the 2 corners to put it on his truck.   :o

Bronzy, you need to spend less time looking for pics of rotten cars and more time working on your Charger. ;D

jaak

I thought NOS (replacement) fenders, didn't have an antenna hole in them. It had to be cut in after you bought it.... I saw a NOS 69 RT fender acouple of years ago and it didnt have an antenna hole.
