I am researching my 1972 Dodge Charger Rallye Coupe, (WL21U2Axxxxxx, 440, 727, N96), and every source I have been able to find says that bucket seats and console were NOT available on the Charger coupe. My car has black bucket seats and console, and the fender tag agrees that the car came with bucket seats. My question is this. Since the Charger coupes are not very common (there were only 28 Rallye coupes made with the 440/727 combo), does anyone else know of another Charger Rallye coupe with factory bucket seats? Is this car one of one? Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Phillip

The rallye's were mostly console/bucket seat cars, its rare to find a rallye with a bench seat or buddy seat.

I don't know if it was original but I saw a 72 Rallye coup with buckets and a console at a car show last month.   It was restored very nice and looked to be original.

I agree that most Rallye Chargers have buckets, but most of them are 2-door hardtops, not the fixed rear window coupe. There were 3,431 Rallye HT made and only 460 Rallye coupes. The HT have a VIN that starts WL23, while the coupe VIN begins WL21. So if you get a chance next time at a car show, check the VIN on the Rally Charger to see if its a coupe of a HT.

True the coupes where front bench and column shifter, in fact also with standart clusters, BUT if it has Rallye package then things change becsuse since 72 the Rallye package was available on coupes and hardtops ( even some very rare 73/74 SEs or "fastbacks" ).

Since 72 the Rallye was not like R/Ts a very different model on assembly line with different VIN, just an added package.

I think this is one. From the pic I don't think it has the buckets and console. I talked with the owner and he said the hood was added at some point. It is an original 440 Coupe and it had Wayne Wooten rather interested at the Madison meet in 2004. The Vin is WL21U2Axxxxxx.

i am really intrigued.  I have a hard time differentiating the coupes, hardtops.  For one, I never really cared, but this has piqued my interest.  Can someone provide me pics with both types so i can see the differences?  thanks.

From exterior none difference, just on some options but same as any other model. Fixed window is just that glass doesn't have regulators, same as 73/74 coupes where glass is attached with a bracket on top of quarter inner frame. that is the MAIN difference between "coupes" and hardtops.

Other difference is just the WL21 on VIN ( low price class line car )

The hardtops were WH23 not WL23.

a coupe can be spotted a mile away on most mopars, especially 68-70s...there's a big fat post between the door glass and the quarter glass. 3rd gens are a little harder to notice.

A 72 rallye coupe U code, N96 car just sold on epay for cheap. Did you buy it? If so congrats.

We have a bench in my wife's '72. I was going to change it to buckets but thought..."how often do you see a bench seat at a car show...they're all buckets" It's a nice novelty

Other coupe detail is a not woodgrained cluster on standarts ones, silver instead that. But if this is a Rallye package, then of course it has the woodgrained rallye cluster because is part of the package and never have seen a not woodgrained rallye cluster...

I'm checking the emails right now.

The only one I have seen was trashed out & from the photo's I have I can not tell what front seats it had ( they were missing)
Bucket seats are not part of the Rallye package
