Is that possable? Cause my car came with a 400 (on fender tag) and a E904 (according to the tag). I thought the 904 was a small block tranny only ???

I didnt think they would even bolt up to each other...  maybe the tag has the wrong code?  I cant imagine a 400/904 combo anyway, especially from the factory.

i don't know, I thought the 8 1/4 rear was only available on 6 cyl and 318 cars but I have that under my 74 SE that came with a 400/727

I thought that it was strange too about the 8 1/4 rears but my 73 400 car has it too.

The 904 was never mated to any big block.

I have a D34 code for my tranny. I know up to '71, that ment Torqueflite Light Duty Automatic Transmission. Someone else on this board a while ago told me that, that was a 904 ??? And I dont know if the code was changed in '72. If it is a light duty 727, can are they good for beefing up and what is the difference from a A727? I eventually wanna make around 500hp with my engine.

I cannot speak for John, but a stock 727 can handle up to 500-525 hp with no issues as long as you do basic upgrades to ease the wear on clutches/bands etc.

The D34 code merely denotes a Torqueflite transmission, whichever one was standard for the engine installed. For a 318 it would be a 904, for a 400 it would be a 727.

Thanks guys. I was just double checking that I had a 727. I got a little confused about being told it was a 904.  :P

All lot of guys use the 904 casing for Drag Racing because it's lighter.
