Maybe I am a bit paranoid with all the talk of Chrysler being sold. I just went to the Dodge.com site and they have removed all reference to the Challenger being a "go". It use to be very prominent on their site. I hope this isn't a hint that they are scrapping the program.  ::)

Ghoste

Who knows for sure with auto makers but they are pretty far into the development of it to drop the car right now.  I think they threw themselves into it as soon as the Mustang sales results started coming in on the heels of the charger sedan backlash.
??? ??? ??? ???

Khyron

why would they want something to compeate with that SLOWmaro?

I think they have to much invested in the making of this car not to go ahead, my fear is they go the prowler route and make low #s at very high prices.

This Charger right here is a one of none, that means none before it, none to come.

thats been up for a long time, I have not seen any info since the anouncement that Daimler was looking to sell off chrysler.

I'll be very surprised if it ever sees the light of day.

I think it's great, however, even with possible huge Mustang-like sales, in the end I can't believe it still isn't viewed as niche vehicle. And given the current state of everything, DCX and otherwise, I'd be surprised if it makes it even close to the top of the priority list.

Again, great concept that I think some company could churn out successfully to a specific market, I just don't see it from DCX, at this point in time.

The brief sputtering of recent muscle/pony resurfacing (Mustang, Challenger concept, Camaro concept) has provided a nice little crutch for Ford, but anything past that, from the big two, or DCX, I just don't see it happening. And even with the success of the 'stang, it's hardly enough to float the rest of Ford's woes. I don't see much of it lasting past the hype and concepts.

I wouldn't put the new Charger sedan into that group, because it is not a pure resurrection of the original car by the same name - closer to meeting "any-other-sedan-out-there" priorities while giving some the feeling of something else through hemi, paint, and sticker options - but not nearly as limiting as a whole different design (Mustang as a family car) would be. That is both what is frustrating about the '06 Charger (for me) and at the same time, a reason for it's fairly successful sales #'s.

Just my 2 cents. :D

I sure hope we are both wrong, I can see them selling a but load of them if it is priced right.

I sure hope they produce it, as I planned on buying one a couple of years after I graduate and have a solid job.  However, the fact that DCX scrapped the idea of a 6-cylinder Challenger is going to make it very hard to compete with the Camaro and Mustang.  I fear it will face the same fate as the Prowler as well.

Shakey

Who on this site actually had plans of buying one?

RDR-838

cheap

:2thumbs:  I have every intention of getting one that would be fully loaded.... A friend of mine is a Dodge dealer and has told me when he gets all of the facts,, for ordering,, he will call me..... I am hoping they bring back the Banana yellow....that will be the one for me.....

Who else wants one ???

6pkrunner

The Brapmton plant was going to make 30,000 units per year. Now that is not a lot of units for a low cost vehicle. So figure on the much-quoted $45,000 range for the 6.1 version. At that lofty price they lost most of the guys who really wanted one, so the low volume. Given a low volume platform as opposed to a bread and butter money maker, where would you see them placing the money? If Chrysler can stand by itself and start to make money, then it will more than likely be a go. But if Daimler spins them off, you may see a period of retrenchment for the Challenger.

73chgrSE

I can't promise to buy a brand new one, but I will likely wait a year and see what's out there.

Chatt69chgr

If they build a Challenger comparably priced with a Mustang, then I plan on buying one.  If they limit the production and keep the price at $45k, I won't.

WINGMAN

Working for a Dodge dealership for the last 13 years i bet if and when the new challengers come out they will be like P/T cruisers were when they first came out , they will be 2 to 5K more than sitcker price. There are lots of people ready to buy one now and they will be very hard to find one when they come out. If you do order one then you best load her up with ALL the goodys and be prepared to wait three months to get it.

That's what I think too.  I want one as well, but we weren't planning on getting one until the second year of production.

41husk

I will get order one as soon as they come out if they are priced starting in the low 30s,  If they are a limited production thing I will still try to get one but I will wait until what I want is on the lot and I can drive it home.  If it is going to be a limited production run, why would they not offer a drop top?

:yesnod: :yesnod: I myself do love the new Charger.(let the bashing begin.) I have driven an RT and an SRT8. The Charger impressed me. I have an LS1 6 speed T/A.I wish that the Charger had a stick. Remember, the Charger didn't resemble one particular year throughout it's production to be considered a Charger. Why does it now?   Back to the Challenger. I Hope that they build it. There are already a few message boards up dedicated to the Challenger. It seems to already have a huge following.

What is a but load?

41husk

Shakey, I think it all depends on who's butt!  If the price is write they could sell a queen Latifa or even a Liberatce butt load :icon_smile_approve:
