Speaking of hood scoops and movie Mopars...

I was watching Smokey and the Bandit on the weekend (because the Pontiwreck had come here recently in another thread) and I noticed all the Fury cop cars in that movie have this goofy almost homemade looking kind of hood scoop on there.  It's kind of like a little reverse shaker Pontiac styled thing and looks to be bondoed to their hoods.  Anyone know the story on those?

I noticed those, and I believe you have the story correct, man.

Why would you want anything else?  Just give me a Charger and I'll be happy.

I always thought they were Trans Am shaker scoops.

Maybe I should mount one on my Charger too :D

i don't think they're big enough to be T/A shakers....
Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

I don't think they're camera mounts, I think they are supposed to be scoops.  My only guess is that Pontiac supplied the Firebird and maybe they had some sort of request about trying to use Pontiac cars for everything else.  Buford Justus drives a Pontiac and a couple of other cop cars were Ponchos too.  Maybe it was an attempt to Pontiyack up the Plymouth's?
Didn't they have a real small shaker on that Nova derived badge engineered GTO?
