Wait,
don't fords like that have a switch or something in the trunk to reset for just this deal??
I know the old escorts had this thing like a fuel safety cut off something or other and you could reset it in the hatch.

Get in the owners manual and see if this is it.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

YES there is.  Usually in the trunk.  BUT I have never seen one turn on the "fuel cut out" light when set.  COULD be a security system prob.  I DOUBT that it is a fuel pump.  What year/model/engine?

like the others said , sounds like the fuel shut off switch needs re setting ,  been a few years since we had one in for crash repair , but i all so seem to remember the switch being in the trunk .. some place on the left side ,behind the side trim maybe  :-\

or maybe a fuse.  my buddy had a volvo that wouldn't start one day and for some strange reason I checked the fuse under the hood and it was blown.  started right up after that.  I have no idea how i thought to check that or where it would be located.  It pays to be simple minded sometimes i guess.lol

what you could try is get  a helper to push the button & hold it in wile you crank the motor & see what happends .  also i have seen faulty fuel switches that  as soon as you slam the tail gate ,the viberation triggers the cut out .

like ( mikepcms) mentioned  , see if it has a separate fuse all so , they have some under the dash & in the engine bay also .

Ghoste

When you first turn the key to the ON position (not start, just ON), do you hear the fuel pump come on?  Not to be condescending, but you didn't mention that and I have seen guys search for fuel pump porblems on Fords before when you could clearly hear the pump coming on for that first pressure up.
What year and model is it?
