Aftermarket oil pans

Never fails when you use aftermarket parts. I got a deepened oil pan and it is hitting my steering rod. Which would you do? bend the pan a little even though it will hurt the flow of oil back into the pan (just a little) or do you bend the steering link and realign the frontend. Or I could shim the back of the trans up a little but don't know if that will gain me enough plus it will change my driveshaft angle. How much clearance should there be between the link and oil pan to be safe?

I would weld a 1/2 tube into the pan , I would leave a 1/4 " clearance at th eclosest point usually cranked right to one end left or right

Another option ould be to shim up the motor mounts. I agree with the 1/4in minumum clearance.  :yesnod:

Thanks for the tips. The motor and trans is sitting where it needs to be in relationship to the motor mount bolts, it is just that the pan happens to be touching the steering rod.

I have the Milodon deep sump # 31030 and mine doesn't rub....that I've noticed.   :o

What pans are hitting and how often is this happening? Is this happening to most or only some cars and combinations?

This one isn't a name brand. It was one I got from the auction site. I did have a Milodon but the bottom was dented.

Dont use a C-body pan in a B-body car or you will have almost enough clearance to slide a piece of paper in between.  :o   Dont ask me how i know... :rotz:

The repro Hemi 6 qt pan fits like a glove and doesn't hang below the k-frame. Mancini carries them along with the matching pickup for a very reasonable price.  ;)

i have a  Factory  971 oil pan on mine  fits good , not a lot of clearance between the steering centre link ... may be 1/8 " or less but does not touch , the bottom of the pan  & sits dead level with the bottom of the k frame .

I would dent the oil pan abit.  My mildon pan is very close too.

my autozone 360 replacement pan required a little donkey punch from a hammer to fit like the original.

What's the oil capacity on one of those, Ron? Isn't it like 7 quarts on a 383?

Yep, the pan holds 6 qts and 1 for the filter. Same capacity for B & RB engines.
