Have you ever been followed?

I'm not talking about the occasional guy that follows you around for awhile just to admire the car.  I've had three incidents in the eight years that I've had the car on the road that I felt the people behind me were up to no good.  One time a couple of guys stayed behind me at varying distances for over twenty miles.  I was just out cruising, so I made plenty of turns but they were always in my mirror.  I started to get concerned enough that I turned back toward town so as not be on some desolate country road alone with them.  At that point it was obvious that I was on to them and they disappeared.  Another time I was trailering (open trailer) the car home for the winter from it's summer time storage area in town.  It seemed obvious that this guy wanted to see where I lived.  After taking him around in a big 4 mile circle about three times he gave up and left.  Another time I was returning from a car show (with my grandson) to the storage area.  Two guys had been behind me for a long time and followed me right up to the entrance gate.  When I punched in my code and the gate opened, they rode my bumper and drove right on in.  That was scary!  I turned down one of the rows (not mine) of storage units but he didn't follow.  I drove right back to the gate and punched in my code to get out.  He didn't follow, so maybe I was just paranoid for nothing.  When talking to the manager about it later, she said there is no way that he could have opened up a unit without setting off the alarm if he didn't punch in his code on the way in and that he must have followed another car out.  I got the tag number of the car in the second incident and gave it to the sheriff's office.  Of course there was nothing they could/would do because no law was broken.
Just curious how many of you have had similar experiences.  Our cars have gotten pretty valuable over the years and are probably more desirable targets now than in the past.  What does it take to get a permit to carry my 357mag in the car with me?    Bob

Never thought about it much. Haven't been followed. The last couple years I have taken a couple of other classics to car shows and have not  been suspect to that. But you do put a perspective on things. Kansas has just passed the law to carry a wepon. You got me thinking now. After my Charger is done I may apply.  :scratchchin:

Well I was chased once in my 67 GTO (69 Ram Air IV 400 motor, very fast car), but not for my car but for a girl they thought was in my car.

When I was 21 my ex worked as a waitress for a while in a bar in bad area (6 Mile between Livernois and Woodward for those who know the area).

I was picking her up at 2:00 am and this big 4 dr Olds with at least 4 bikers was in the lot waiting also.

They asked me about a girl who worked there and I told them I didn't know if she was working that night or not.

Told them I was waiting for my ole lady.

When my wife came out she had another girl with her (not the one they asked about) and wanted to give her a ride home.

I said ok, they got in and off we went, turned onto Woodward and all of a sudden there's the Olds next to me, guys hangin out the windows waving guns tellin me to pull over.

I told the girls to get down and hang on, I pulled to the right lane and slowed to about 5 mph with them on my bumper.

Then I punched it, held it to the floor for about 2 1/2 miles, running 120+ through every red light on Woodward just hoping the cops would pull us over.

Never happened, luckilly I left them so far behind I was able to turn down a side street and never saw em again.

Turns out the girl they were after was a "biker chick" and her old man was from a rival gang. They were going to kidnap her to get to him I suppose.

The wife called her when we got home and told her the story, we never saw her again, and the girl I gave the ride home to quit her job and we never saw her again after that night either.

One time a guy was following me in a 72 Monte Carlo. He was following me around a lot of side streets, so I floored it at an intersection, and he followed suit. Pulled into the driveway where I was dropping a friend off. It was a kid and wanted to say he liked the Charger...   ::)

Other than that, its never happened.

I have had it happen more than a few times,,,the majority of the time,,,they come roaring up next to you,,,,,with the window down,,,shouting something,,eg what year is that ?,,, is if for sale ?? or some other nonsense....
I never "drive back home" with it,,,,dont feel like having someone know where the car is stored.....

on a different note: I have "followed" someone,,,,,,
Was on Woodward Ave with my wife in the Charger,,,just out cruising around,,,,,sitting at a light,,,,and another 68' Charger was seen turning onto the street we were on,,,,,,i sat at the light,,,watching him pull away,,,until our light turned green..........I nailed it to catch up to him,,,,,I thought this was perfectly fine to do... seeing as i was in my 69 Charger,,,,and he was in a 68' Charger,,,,fellow Mopar guy right ???
He ended up driving into a subdivision,,,,, and up his driveway,,,I stopped at his house,,,my wife is yelling at me,,,"what are you doing" ?   you dont even know this guy,,,, (HIS girlfriend was doing the same,,,,) "dont worry hon,,,,its a car thing".........
I got out,,,he did as well,,,,in his driveway,,,,,,shook hands,,,,and hit it off.......
We stayed for a few hours,,,,talking cars,,,my wife and his wife talked.....
To this day,,,he is a good friend,,,,,,
Went to his wedding a few years later,,,,,go to the Mopar nats,,,,etc,,,,,,,,

I have been followed twice in my life, once was near my house, there is a nice 10 mph turn at the bottom of a hill, that if you know about it you can go about 30mph through, let's just say they didnt know about it...   that was actually quite fun watching the headlights disappear down the 20 foot ditch...   the other time was serious enough that I headed downtown to the police station. They didnt stick around for that crap.
