As Dan already mentioned the best you can do is fiind the casting date on the side of the engine. There's no way to tell for sure that it is the original engine but if the casting date is dated 2-5 months before the car's build date no one can prove it isn't the original engine. Chad touched on another issue in that most of the /6 cars were given transplant engines so it seems highly unlikely someone would have messed with yours. Who replaces a /6 with another /6? If the car is in pretty good original condition (meaning it hasn't been driven into the ground) and the casting date is close but prior to the build date I'd say it's 99% sure you've got the original engine.

Thanks for the info.  The 68 I just picked up is automatic.  I just wonder out of the 904 that they say were made, how many still have the original slant 6 in them???

hard to tell from the pictures ,but looks good   its not the charger i thought it was... there was a pretty much a  original slant six  on ebay some time a go in F3  , with i thought was the one you had.

That is the only other slant 6 charger I have seen on ebay.
