It would be a real shame for chrysler, who brought you the 4 door charger that you all hate so much,  to get taken over by a company that makes a a corvett that's faster than most cars 3x it's price.  and that's not even counting the Z06 that's in the 60-65K neighborhood and is faster than basically any other production car on the face of the earth, including the viper.  what a shame.

look at the bright side, if our old mopars technically become chevys, maybe we will get some affordable restoration parts.

:iagree:

One article I read said that it would be on the order of a $5 Billion deal and that Chevrolet /GM is not liquid enough to pull it off.  If Daimler is serious about selling off Chrysler, there is always the possibility of a company such as Mitsubishi or Hyundi to make a competitive bid.  Careful what you wish for, but then again it shouldn't matter since the automakers are about making $$$ and not placating the musclecar owning minority (Neither of which they have been able to do lately).

If chevy buys mopar I will never buy another new mopar! NEVER!
What was the first new Mopar you bought? :popcrn:

If Mitsubishi or Hyundai buys Chrysler, that will piss me off 100 times worse than if GM bought it.  :flame:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

How about some honesty here. Of all the car companies you can think of, which one would be the most likely to understand and the least likely to screw up the Chrysler heritage which includes the classic Dodge Charger? Some Japanese tuner-maker? An Italian company? The Koreans or the Chinese? I'd say a GM purchase is not the ideal choice but I can't think of one that would be any better. Ideally I'd like to see it go independent with someone like Lee Iacocca and a bunch of wealthy American investors buying it outright, but I doubt that will happen.

Hmmm...I think Leno should buy it, think of the cool stuff he'd make! :D
And, if he sold off some of his collection, he could probably pay cash. :icon_smile_tongue:

Question:

If GM actually does purchase Chrysler - how will this affect you?   :shruggy:

Doesn't not effect me directly.

Not one iota.

Not planning to buy a new car any time in the near/distant future, so I see this as just one more crack in the already faded facade of the American automobile industry.

Next vehicle I buy is an International.  :icon_smile_big:

Zero.  I wouldn't buy a car on a bet from either of them.  Their build quality stinks!

how can a chevy afford to buy Chrysler, thought they were doing bad themselves
The thing is that when they say they lost money, it means they didn't make as much as they did the year before.they are by no means broke. I will never buy a GM made Mopar. It is against all things holy.

At least it's American and as for Camaros at Mopar shows, that's as likely to happen as us going to the Chevelle Nationals.  I haven't seen any Mercedes gullwings showing up at Columbus.  I suppose we could all wear t-shirts that say "If you can't beat 'em- buy 'em".  That would keep the bowtie crowd still wound up.
Say, whatever happened to the bright minds who brought us the Viper and Prowler after Daimler stepped in??

Here's a link to an interesting article about Dr. Z's flip-flop, and the prosituting of Ma MoPar (swiped from MoParts):

"Zetsche was the guy who killed jobs, closed plants, tore up the product plans, instilled what he called "disciplined pizzazz" at Chrysler. Then he started shipping billions in operating profit back to Stuttgart just as vaunted Mercedes was slipping into the red, thanks to an aging product line, operational inefficiencies and a black hole called Smart."

Gm is just buying for the Hemi, just like the old Chrysler bought AMC for the Jeep.

May not be that bad if their first course of action is renaming the Charger a Chevelle.

Yep, and maybe an ugly 4 door Corvette will the result.

The Germans took the money out of the Chrysler, but Daimler Benz be next to a Hyndai or what ever will never happen, they wont throw away 100years of expensive upperclass cars for letting some cheap sell allot of shit but cheap company take over, but still mayby GM have made the Germans an very good offer for the stocks.
Eitherway the can still not turn the clock back, what happend after 1974 dont effects me(even thou its hurts).

Did anyone ask Kerkorian how he feels about all this?

As for Dieter's disciplined pizzaz, was that before or after his wife was charged for serving alcohol to minors and he started doing those stupid Dr. Z ads?

Lets face it .Fear has always been a factor when it comes to selling cars.It is theese type of threats and rumours that help sells theese cars.It puts a urgency factor in your automobile purchase .I am afraid I might loose my job or I am afraid GM might buy Chrysler. They know what buttons to press, they have been doing it effectivlely for years.

HEY EVERYBODY! I just read that GM wants to buy the "Chrysler" arm of the corporation. So if they buy it, they will only own the Chrysler arm. DaimerChrysler will still own the Jeep and Dodge arms. :yesnod:
