GM in talks to buy Chrysler division - I'm going to puke...

Been awhile since I posted.  Just watching Bloomberg [ a financial news channel ]  and their analysts and guests have been talking for the past 20 minutes about General Motors being in talks to purchase Chrysler from DaimlerChrysler.
A lot of what they put on the financial channels is pure speculation since they try to fill each day with news on mergers, stock market tendencies, analysis, profits, strategies, etc etc.

:puke:   Granted , GM was in talks to merge with Nissan/ Renault several months ago and nothing came of it.

Daimler Mercedes merge with Chrysler is often lamented and cursed on this site, although I think they have done some positive things -         [ Bring back a powerfull small block, get back into Nascar, Mopar Performance division/SRT/ and NHRA type drag racing programs still strong, probable overall quality improvements , still making strong diesel work trucks/ Viper]

GM buying in would be a disaster, Losing Plymouth was bad before. But being bought by Chevy would be a heritage and performance nightmare.   :-[

Ok, I've fought back the urge to retch, Mopar has made it this far relatively intact, from all the way back in the 1910's and 1920's with the Dodge brothers , and Walter Chrysler.

I'm going to have to get my Mopar V8's to torturing and smouldering some tires today and hope their listening in Detroit and Germany
:drive:

Unfortunately, the financiers of this world are mercenary.  Daimler Chrysler stock is up $ 3.15 on the news so far today.  A relatively quick buck to the brokers with the promise of future cost saving and profits -get a lot of mergers put together that don't make sense.

Don't shoot the messenger. :-\

GM to buy Chrysler, then Ford is going to buy GM and then Bill Gates is going to buy Ford.   :yesnod:

If chevy buys mopar I will never buy another new mopar! NEVER!

Question:

If GM actually does purchase Chrysler - how will this affect you?   :shruggy:

Red Ram

Cool... now the new Challenger will be a new Camaro with a different front-end and a hemi/vette motor! :o

May not be that bad if their first course of action is renaming the Charger a Chevelle.

Not at all for awhile.  My newest vehicle is from 1989 and i wont be buying a GM-Dodge for another 10 years.

I will get a gm discount on a brand new challenger, and wont get harrassed at work for wearing mopar shirts into a gm plant everyday.  I love mopars, but have nothing against ford or gm as they do pay for my mopar habit. ;D ;D

jwilk01

This has been in talks for at least year.  I am not sure that the government would allow that to happen.  It would be the begining of a monopoly.  Besides didn't GM just lay off a bunch of people or make an announcement saying they were.  I know Chrysler is and I ford has layed off about the whole company now.  Just doesn't sound right, more like a publicity stunt or something.

Its all over the news Silver, FORD is in the crapper, NOT Chevy. Gees. Ford lost $12.7 billion for 2006 a new mustang per minute.
If Chevy does by Mopar, the next thing you'll here or see is a conversion kit availability. Good Wrench Z71 350 long blocks for our mopars, big block 502 crate motor now made to fit in our mopars, I'll buy a GT 40 if that crap happends. I work for a chevy dealership also, but drive Ford trucks. I'd rather walk than drive a chevy.

Hey, you can hate the game but don't hate the player.

Who cares if Chevy buys it, at least it will be back in American hands.

yeah, I think it's highly unlikely.  So far it's still a rumor that Daimler is even going to sell Chrysler.  It's all based off of a comment where at Daimler head said that they are "looking into all options".  And GM's 4th quarter earnings were horrid.  Don't any of you watch the Colbert Report?  :D

THE CHARGER PUNK

like 1 or 2 yrs ago didnt Gm lay off like 50,000 workers?? how the hell can they buy dodge??? doesnt mercedes own it already??? or half owners?

dkn1997

It would be a real shame for chrysler, who brought you the 4 door charger that you all hate so much,  to get taken over by a company that makes a a corvett that's faster than most cars 3x it's price.  and that's not even counting the Z06 that's in the 60-65K neighborhood and is faster than basically any other production car on the face of the earth, including the viper.  what a shame.

look at the bright side, if our old mopars technically become chevys, maybe we will get some affordable restoration parts.
