In-Flight Refueling..some pics!

   Ladies and gentlemen, I thought I'd share some photos from my very first aerial refueling (AR) last week. 

  This is one COOL aspect of my new mission in Special Ops, flying in the MC-130E "Combat" Talon. 

   We connected and disconnected several times with this KC-135R from Tinker AFB in OKC, Oklahoma for our pilots who were getting check-rides at the time.  I got some good training in the process as well.

Those F-111's went to the Boneyard at Davis-Mothan AFB maybe ten years ago.  They were last used in the first gulf war.  Afterwards, only their electronic counter-warfare variant; the EF-111 "Raven" remained in service.  That lasted only a few years until the Navy took over all electronic counter-warfare operations with their flying pig that looks like the Intruder.

 i was thinking that camo looked kinda vietnam era, that plus i remember that issue from when i was in college...

BTW those navy intruder planes sure have a long life they been flyin since vietnam too, i had a cousin bailed out in one over the north pacific twenty five years ago, they both survived... i belive they were sub-huntin...

Did you know that the F-111's primary mission when it first came on line was as a medium-ranged supersonic nuclear bomber?  There was no conventional role for it initially.

The FB-111's primary mission was as a nuclear bomber but the other F-111 varients were fighters, equipped with guns and close-in missiles.

The F-111 was a hanging point in the various SALT treaty talks, the Ruskies wanted the whole fleet classed as strategic bombers because of their range and lifting capacity but the U.S. recognized only the FB as a strategic bomber.
