Cool Cop Stories.......

After reading the post about Mr. Angry in NY, it reminded me of a couple of experiences that I have had with "cool" cops.

First was about 8 years ago when I was in my ex-AAR Cuda. I was trying to get out of a gas station at the same time that a local office building was emptying out after work. The company hires off-duty cops to direct traffic in order to get their employees out quickly. The cops usually stop all cross traffic to let the workers out first. When one of the cops saw the Cuda, he immediately stopped everybody else, gave me a thumbs up and waved me on through.

The second story was a few years later in the same car. The Cuda died at an intersection......no lights, flashers, dome light, etc. (turned out to be a loose bulk-head connection). Within a few minutes, a couple of cruisers pulled up behind me. When they got out of their cars, one turned to the other and said, I told you that it was a Cuda. He knew his cars. He helped me probe around under the hood until we found the problem. Once we got the car running, he followed me home just in case it died again. About a month later, my doorbell rang about 9 pm. I went to answer the door and saw that it was a police officer. My first thought was......oh crap, what did one of my boys do?
It turned out to be the cop that helped me that night. He wanted to show me pictures of a Trans AM he was restoring and to check out the Cuda. I thought that was pretty cool.

Anybody else have good experiences?

Good stories!

old man

A couple of years ago I was driving the Challenger T/A home from work. I was cruising along well within the speed limit. A Highway Patrol car went by me going the other way. I noticed he did a u turn in my mirror and was coming back to me. I went ahead and pulled over and waited for him to pull in behind me. He pulled in behind me and turned on his lights. He got out of car and walked up to the car. I already had my paperwork out and I asked him what i had done. He didn't even want to look at paperwork but asked me where my front licence plate was. I told him I had plate in back but was still trying to find front bracket to mount. He told me understood it must be hard to find parts for such a car. Then he wanted to know what year it was and what kind of motor and such it had. It was pretty plain that all he wanted to do was to see the car. I opened the hood and we stood there and talked for about 10 minutes. When we were done he told me to to take care of the car and get the plate on as soon as I could. We shook hands and he went back to his car. He sat there waiting for me to leave so when I left I gave it a little goose and chirped scond. I'm sure that's what he wanted me to do. He passed me down the road and waved at me. Cool cop.

hmmm, well I out ran the greenwood and whiteland indiana cops a few times so after that, they would pull me over and not even get out of their car until the camaro cop had shown up and it would pace back and forth while they had me pulled over.  I just got tired of being harrassed by them.  They would pull my over every time they saw me and search for drugs (which I never had).  I guess they don't like those "long-haired hippy types".

hey, it was a cool story to me...  :D

Heres my story........  I used to keep the 1970 plate on the front of my car and the other plate on the back. I was driving around minding my own business 8) , when a Sheriff passes me, he whips a U and then fallows me for a few blocks... "OK heres the deal, my tabs were expired by a week, but there was no way to tell because the plate with the tags is on the back of the car." So I get a block and the cherry's come on....  :police: Great... HE pulls me over and says "You know what I pulled you over?" I say "no". He goes, "that plate on the front of your car" I'm thinking, you have nothing better to do than mess with me over that!  Then he tells me "Thats is called falsifying your registration, I could arrest you for this" Now I'm like what the hell... He the tells me that there isn't a chance in hell of me keeping this plate and has me go sit on the curb. He then calls in two other cars, and they search my car, it was at this point that he realises my plates have bounced...... All this was over a plate on the front of my car! He Finlay gives me a ticket and sends me on my way! First off, my car was legal, and insured, with the exception of the tags. What an ass!!! :eyes:

And this is a cool story how? He had the right to give you a ticket and he did... don't get me wrong I am no fan of the law enforcement or anything else that has to do with authority, but you never hear me bitch about the fact that I got a ticket when it was legit...

I myself am a magnet to cops, no matter what I do wrong as soon as I just cross the line a little bit the cops always show up like I have a big sign hanging above my head saying so. I would truly make a terrible burgular... They however did cut me a great deal of slack once and a little bit a couple of other times.

Not the past new years eve but the year before that we had some problems, the car we were suposed to go with was burned down to the ground by thiefs, so when we were finished cleaning that up we were running a little late for a party in another city. Naturally I got to drive as I am famous for getting everybody everywhere in a shorter time than they could imagine, anyways I was well on my way doing about 130mph on the highway (mind you it was a 3 lane highway with nobody on it as it was 11PM new years eve, everybody was already drunk and celebrating) I was doing fine keeping it between 130/140mph I see headlights in my rear view mirror and they are approaching slowly after a couple of miles it seems as they want to pass. Well what do you know, cops.... Well naturally I figured well that was it for my driver's licence at least for a while, they overtake me and drive in front of me and slow down to the speedlimit 75mph. They pull back next to me wave at me and get off at the next exit. I am thankful to still have my licence.

The others where just occasions were I didn't get a ticket for all the violations but only 2/3 or 1/2 or something like that. Some examples, broken taillight and speeding (only 10mph over the speedlimit) only got a ticket for the taillight. Speeding, overtaking on the right, no seatbelt only got speeding and no seatbelt (the woman was driving in the left lane well below the speedlimit, what else was I supossed to do). Didn't get tickets for stuff like driving the wrong way in a one way street, driving through a park and licenceplate lighting. Did get tickets for parking in a park, a couple of no seatbelt tickets, and various speeding tickets. I wish I collected all of the tickets I would have had a wall full  ;D Mind you that I get very anxious around police, whenever I see them I just have the urge to do something against the law but do it so that they have nothing to take me on. What can I say I just have a problem with authority...

Btw I am thankful to still have my licence and my full points have my licence for 2 1/2 years now and wouldn't know what to do without it. Don't doubt there will come a time I will have to though.

Arthur

PS Just like I have the really big urge to steal a police car, they always leave them unlocked with the keys in it and whenever I walk past one it is just begging to me to be taken... Luckily my mind has won this so far and always think about the trouble I could land myself in. But someday, someday...

I had the same SLC PD motor officer bugging me for years on my motorcycle. He pulled me over repeatedly for loud pipes ( sound ordinance) and I always passed the test. I got a trespass ticket from him once when I pulled into a Sears parking lot to talk to some other guys and had been there for about 15 seconds.  He even pulled me over in my car after following me home once. We were in a dead end and hit me with his siren ( did he think I was going to run from a dead end after he followed me for blocks?), he turned his radio to the outside pa, cranked it up, all of his lights were on and then came pounding on my car and dragged me out in front of my neighbors making a huge production because I didn't make a complete stop at a turn around a corner several blocks back.
I got another lousy ticket but got it dismissed.

Some are cool and some are asses. I know one right now who sits in his wifes office half the day instead of being out working. I don't see how he can keep his job for long.

The county Sheriff has always been really pretty cool with us. Once I had a U joint break on my '71 Charger and my jack couldn't lift the car to where it needed to be. A county Sheriff pulled up, loaned me his jack and ended up climbing under the car with me and helped me jury rig it and followed me home too.
The cop got his uniform pretty messed up and everything. I was really grateful for the help since I was on a date!

Then there were the times in the '70's that we got pulled over after smoking dope and they never hauled us in although I'm positive they could smell it etc. One cop shined his light right on our baggie of  1/4 oz and did nothing. They told us to be cool and careful and go chill for a while - off the road like in a drive in movie. I'm not sure that would happen now.

well, that and they don't know how to drive.  :D  I knew they were going to pull me over, so might as well just hit it.  If you can't lose them in 2 minutes though, forget it.  you can't beat the radios.

ok, so here's a real "cool" story.  in case some of you haven't noticed yet, I play in a band.  We're called IKILLYA and I thought it would be great to do a photoshoot in a lineup room and jail and so on.  I know a retired detective up here, so I called him and asked if he could make that happen.  He called his old sarge and set it up.  So, we got to do a photoshoot in the lineup room and holding cell of what was known in the 70's as Fort Apache, the most violent precinct in NYPD history.  Here's an interesting fact: there are no lines on the lineup walls.  That's only a movie thing.  We had to add ours in photoshop so you knew where we were.

I've found the cops here to be great.  I have a whole new opinion.

#1Well lets see, he puled my over just because I was a kid. If it were an adult driving that car he wouldn't have given two shits about the plate on the front!
#2The fact that he threatend to arrest me just to be an ass!
#3 He searched my car because I was a kid.
#4 HE never figured out the tags had bounced until after he pulled me over and started to search the car!
#4 You assume that I didn't think I deserver the ticket, I know I deserved the ticket.
#5 I have no problem with the police, I think they are good guys who have to deal with a lot of shit. If I am speeding and I get pulled over, I wont try and argue with him, will shake his hand, and take the ticket! That one was an ass!
#6 Sorry, it didn't hit me until after the fact that it wasn't a cool story, I am sorry for that!

I have one cool cop story.  My brother and I had been working on my Charger untill pretty early in the morning for several weeks when we finally finished off the interior.  It was pretty much the last hurdle to getting my car to what I would consider mostly complete (there will always be more to do) and we were pretty excited and thought we would take her for a spin.  We needed to get some gas, so we drove to a neighboring town to do so.  It was about 2am.

When we got near the gas station, we could see a cop parked there.  Since it is the only station nearby, we pulled in to gas up.  The cop turned his car around and approached us at the pumps.  Being a magnet for extraneous police attention (tons of bad traffic stop stories), I was a little apprehensive.

The cop turned out to be really cool.  He asked for some details on the car, how long we had been working on it, etc...and asked if he could check it out.  We popped the hood and shot the breeze for a bit when he asked how fast she would go.  I told him I had no idea because the speedometer appeared to be off by quite a bit.  He offered to head out of town for us and clock us on radar so we could get an idea of how accurate the speedometer was.  Turns out it is off by almost 10 mph.  The cool thing was, that after he clocked us, he pretty much gave us a green light to open her up and have some fun.  It was a really cool experience.

Ironically, many of my friends are in law enforcement, so I know alot of the guys are really cool...but when they are jerks, they are serious jerks.

I got my Charger in 1978 and was always a target in the Charger. It  was like two years later and was driving 35 in a 30 and I was passed by a city cop in a Volare. He pointed at me. I briefly let off the gas and he slowed and he was looking to pull a U on me. There was some cars behind me and I had about a half a block lead on him. I took the next right and hammerd it. I only had 1st & 3rd. because second always hit hard and i eventually tore it out. I was about two blocks down when he turned the corner and hit his lights. By the time he got up to speed I lost sight of him. I slammed on the brakes and hooked a turn and went around the block. I pulled back to the same street I just turned from and just before I got to the corner he came flying by  and never seen me. I turned back the way I came from and went about my buissiness. About 30 min later a county sherrif car was sitting directly accross from me at an intersection in a Fury.....probably a big block back then. We crossed at the intersection and I didn't see them for a couple minuites and poof he was right behind me. I figured I was cooked. I pulled into a trailer court and pulled up to an empty trailer (sign showed for rent). I grabbed a carb I had behind the seat and walked to the trailer and proceeded to knock on the door. They pulled up and got out and said hey the city police are looking for you. I said ummmm where are they then? He said hold on he had to call them and tell them where I was. They said stay put they are on their way. One Sherrif said no one lives here why are you here? I said a friend was cleaning up  yesterday and today and maybe I missed him. He told me to bring the carb by  today
:icon_smile_big:.   A few minuites later 4 cop cars showed up. The cop that I out ran says I can't be for sure if it was me because he didn't get a tag number. He says pop the hood so he could see my engine because I was gone when he turned the corner. I said whatever and all R/T's had a 440 or a Hemi. He looks and says yep he is probably the one. I said hold on......where was supposably seen at? He stated where and I said no way here is my licence. My address showed the other side of town and just left there and was no way over on that side of town so call my mom if you want. By then there was people coming out  to see what was going on. Then the cops were all talking where  no one could here them and about 10 min later I said huirry up and either give me a ticket or let me go. The Sherriffs said were outta here this could get messy with no proof it was me and wished them luck. So the cop I out ran said get the hell outta here boy it's your lucky day. I said cool. I was leaving and he says see you in court.  ???. As soon as i got home ( i didn't live with mom) my wife says so what happened and I said about what? My mother in law heard the chase on the scanner and called my wife. She never liked me much then. I always talked crap on her 70 monte SS that I raced HER and beat her in!  I ended up parking the Charger shortly after that and just now am starting to restore it. Sorry for the long winded story guys.....thought I would share.

yeah, if you get out of sight before they get a tag, it will never hold up in court.  it'll sure piss them off though....

This one time I was a cop and this guy pulls into a gas station with a yellow 69 charger. I talked to him and ordered him to open his hood. After a careful inspection, I noticed he had nothing on my 69. I knew I could take him. We talked for quite a time. Damn cops. They are not human.

On the opposite side of the coin. I was at the airport, on the scene of a bomb scare on a commercial airline, when a guy comes up to me and says, " You own a green Charger don't you?" I couldn't believe he noticed me for something like that.

P.S. I don't many of the people I work with either. I think they got beat up in school and got a badge to take it out on the rest of the world.
If it ain't wide open; it ain't running.        Rule number one in motocross racing: Pin it; row the gear box; and wait until you hit something.     At work my motto is: If you need me, call someone else.
