I've been to 148mph, radar checked,  in my 69 Charger R/T 440 Stock auto. in southern Ohio on US52
Seen 115+ on the speedo in my 95 Dakota, V6 auto on the same highway no cops this time though!
The reason I pushed the truck to that speed was to celebrate it turning 150,000 miles, it now has 280,000 and it takes me to school every day, since I got laid off, down I275 at 80 to 85mph never missing a lick. I looking forward to seeing 300,000 miles on it so I can try the 115+ again.

1973 Dart 340 (2.93 gears) 173 MPH (Police radar certified)  :-\

1976 Ford Torino Police Intercepter 460 - 165 MPH

1970 Dodge Charger (my brothers) 145 MPH +

My 1968 Charger, last weekend, 105 MPH
(I had just washed it and was trying to air dry it)  :icon_smile_big:

Oh, by the way, the 73 Dart shook and rattled at 70 MPH.  Once you broke 75 MPH though, it smoothed right out.  None of the other cars had any problems at those speeds and felt safe and solid.  I never tried any of these on bias ply tires.

Can you tell us more of this '73 dart?

I did 130 in a toyota corolla on cruise control in upper Michigan on the yooper autobaughn.    :ricky:

The fastest I've ever gone is about 120 in my old mercury marquis out on highway 90 between alpine and El Paso.

I hit 105 a few days ago in a 2006 mustang (rental). I would have gone faster but I'd been awake for over 24 hours straight and had been on the road for about 10 hours and could barely keep my eyes open. I figured going 150 MPH wouldn't be a good idea at that point.

Went for a ride in my friend's father's 'Nessy Viper...    He said it got over 200mph...       I believe it...     All I can say is I dont plan on driving with him again....                  ever...       :leaving:

In 1993, I bought a new '93 Honda CBR 1000 Hurricane. We use to ride 3-4 wide on an open road in my county on Sunday mornings just after sunrise. I was all stock. I got it up to 158mph a few times. It was listed to reach 163mph. At 235 pounds, I can see why I never got up to that....lol.

I also owned a new all black '93 Pont.T/A back then. Got it up to 145mph before I backed off. It had more in it though. Been to 120mph in the '71 a few month ago. Not real comfortable going that fast in it though.

I have had my 86 Cutlass up to 120 a couple times (figured out by the RPM).  I had the 70 SS 454 up to 130 once.  THe Charger with the 2.76 gears in it I would imagine can bury that 150 MPH speedo with no problem  :yesnod:

YEP,  I have pegged the 150 speedo in my red charger at least twice, with a 294 sure grip, then in 1980
I got pulled over and arrested for 140+ in a 35, not sure how fast I was going, had to keep my eye on
the road. That was the last speeding ticket I got............. wakes a person up real fast, it was also the
last time I was arrested..........  no I am not proud of it, but it seemed like a blast, until I got the reckless   :rotz: :rotz:
All this on bias ply tires as well   :brickwall:

I've had a couple of fast ones also..

I did 125mph in my wifes parents car on the german autobahn, comming home from vacation.. My father in law was sitting in the passenger seat smiling, and my wife and mother in law was reading.. I hit the part of a bridge, where the bridge starts, there's often a small bump.. Try going over one of those at that speed.. I definately got my mother in laws attention..  :icon_smile_wink:

I did 140 in a tuned out Subaru Impreza WRX Sti.. Awesome car..

I did 155 in a highly tuned Toyota Supra.. Bigger turbo and all... That thing i insane...

I don't really do stuff like that anymnore...

Now that I'm in the desert I can open my car up this summer and see what it will do on a GPS just once.  I'll go out in the flat open area WITH NO PASSENGERS and all clear of cars just to be safe.  I guess I just have to know what it will do.  :shruggy:   Chuck...........

Shortly after I got my first Mopar ('68 Coronet RT) I had a Chebby buddy in the back and one riding shotgun.  As I got on the old highway leading out of Hays, Ks. I told them to watch the speedometer.  A touch over 145mph @ 6200rpm.  Balanced & blueprinted 440 w/ a 3:23 Sure Grip on bias ply Goodyears'.  :rotz:  I remember the front end floating.

I don't know how accurate that is with slippage and so forth but the motor was definitely built and have my two friends who watched the gauges.  I do recall a legend was born that night.  :icon_smile_wink:

Best place to try that will either be in AZ after the dam, or to the north of Vegas.  Can't remember which interstate.  The road in AZ heading towards Kingman is long, open and not much of sh!t out there.

69 Charger 383 2.93s: 150 indicated on two-lane blacktop somewhere in Kansas about 2 am (back in the early 80's) (Driving)

Same Charger (same road trip): 135 indicated Hwy 240 near Armstrong, MO (Driving)

68 Chevelle, 396: 130 indicated Hwy 240 between Glasgow and Slater, MO (Riding shotgun)

59 Ford Fairlane 6 banger: 110 indicated (THAT took a while) Hwy 240 between Glasgow and Slater, MO (Driving)

70 GTO, 400: 125 indicated (top) 100 (sustained) somewhere south of Wichita (Driving)

These are the most memorable. For someone who is not a race car driver, I've spent a LOT of time in vehicles at excessive speeds.

As I think about this, the number of times I have been in wheeled conveyances traveling in excess of 100 mph on public roads makes me marvel at the fact that I will reach the age of 50 in July.

Tilar

1971 AMC ambassador 401 Police Interceptor.... All I can say is this car was fast. At 30 MPH I could stomp on it and the rear wheels would start spinning so fast that the tires would start spinning on its own rubber. At 120 MPH I could tramp the accelerator and that car would drop down a gear and take off. Somewhere around 134MPH it would shift into high gear and leave anything nearby searching for its tail lights. 140 was top end on the speedometer and I saw it go past that quite a few times.

On the same note, a Zero Stomp race would do nothing but turn that car around several times before it took hold.
