MPH TOP SPEED, HOW FAST HAVE YOU GONE (ON LAND)?

Just another pointless post.  How fast is the fastest you've gone on land?  I've done (194mph) on my 2000 Suzuki HyaP.O.S.  That was wide open up in Fallen Nevada.  I have no desire to ride that fast again ever, I keep it under 160mph.  I've lost my sense of adventure as I grow older.  :bawling:  All of my years of speed has been done on two wheels.  As for in a car, the fastest I've been is about (115mph).  That's it for me.   Chuck..............

Back in 1978 durning a show i got to drive my 68 R/T on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  :icon_smile_big:
Got it up to 130 before running out of fuel (needed a better pump).

Motorcycle about 120 on I-15 many years ago.
I got busted on I-215 for going 135mph in a '68 Firebird 400 'vert, actually I saw the cop as I came around the bend and hit the brakes just as I saw him. I flew past him and just pulled over and waited for him to catch up.
He rolled up and we talked. He said he knew I was going faster than he got me and asked how fast I was doing. I told him that I didn't know how accurate the speedo was but it said around 135. He laughed and said he figured but he only got me at about 95.
The bottom line was that he didn't ticket me!
I told him how I was going to be fired from work for being late and let me go telling me to slow down. I thought I had a bit more in the car but it was starting to float a bit at that speed.

I once had my Porsche around 150 on the same stretch about ten years earlier.

Now, this being said, that was the very last time I ever drove that fast on the road. I realized that losing my job was nothing compared to killing people on the freeway with my irresponsibility. I seriously could have easily lost control and killed not only myself but kids, parents, whatever. DUMB! STUPID!
I'll go 5 or so over now but I refuse to drive like that now and I ask that other please don't either. I'm not ready to get taken out by you. I would like to finish my car and enjoy some more life before you kill me please.

That fastest I have been was about 160 in a 02 Viper, I was riding not driving. I had a to tell my friend to slow the hell town. I have had my Charger going 130, and I had my old Eagle Talon 125 in fourth gear with plenty of tach and one more to go.  I got scared and cut it off.

132 mph, German Autobahn, 76 Jaguar XJ6, 6 cylinder. Going to get groceries at the commissary.

145 on a 2000 Honda VFR800.  Its listed top speed is 150, but it wouldn't get there.

Hey NYCMille,  did you ever have any problems with your Busa?  My 2000 had a bad cam chain tensioner twice and then developed an electrical ghost problem.  I bought the bike brand new in 2000, rode for about 3 weeks and then the cam chain tensioner went out and took the whole motor with it. It was down for just about 4 months  :flame: I had nothing but problems with that bike for allmost 2 years.  Good old Suzuki did not do much for me.  I now sport a Yamaha R1 and have had NO problems.  This is what I think about the Busa, When it ran good it was fast but it was a LEMON.  Hard on rear tires and chains, I would go through a tire a month (too many wheelies) and I snapped two chains.    Chuck.................

My fastest is about 150 on the Autobahn

The good part is I was able to drive that speed for about 45 minutes before having to slow down.

Fastest in a 4-wheeled vehicle was an indicated 135-140.

Fastest on a bike wan an indicated 145. I'll tell you though, going fast on a bike is a LOT different than in a car. You get there a lot quicker & your senses are all dialed in at 100%. It's a blast...right up until you catch a groove in the road & get into a frame wobble, then the 'pucker factor' comes into play. :o

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

135MPH with a lot of throttle to go in my 2000 FIREBIRD..... THE TOP WAS DOWN.....  I suddenly realized not the smartest thing to do in a CONVERT.....

I had the 72 up to 118 MPH, but my brother's friend shot some video with my brother taking her up to 125 (blew the doors off of a POS Ruststange) after I first got in the Military. I told him I was going to kill him when I got home, and that I want a copy of the video. That was with the 318, 2.94 gears(8 1/4 rear), with all of the rubber in the front suspention worn out, rear shock gone, and weatherstrip howling. I will be puting a 440, 8 3/4 (2.76 gears was all I could find in the junk yard), and a Gear Vendors over drive ($800  :icon_smile_big: ), I wonder what it will top out at when I am done. If I did the calculations right, that will be about 100 MPH at 2500 RPM.

I've only had 3 cars that felt stable enough to break 100 MPH. The fastest I've driven was just shy of 130 in my first 1969 Charger SE with the 383-4V on the New Jersey Turnpike at 3AM. My 1969 Cadillac Hearse weighed 7200 pounds, & I went across the lower level of the George Washington Bridge at 110 MPH. I think I had my Scamp up to 115 MPH, but I didn't like the way that car felt at that speed & wouldn't try it again. I had my friend's Superbird, the lime 440-6V one, up to 100 MPH, but the bias ply tires will make you want to change your underwear.

The fastest I ever went as a passenger was in a 1969 Super Bee with a 426 Wedge that was far from stock. The driver was playing around with my friend's other Superbird, the white 440-4V one, on I-84 but left him behind by quite a bit. I had no idea how fast we went, but my friend in the Superbird said later that he backed off when he was doing 110 MPH. I'd guess we may have done somewhere around 125 MPH or so, but I was more interested in what was in front of us than the speedometer. It seems more scary as a passenger with the sense of no control.   :o

Haven't done any of these speeds in about 12 or 13 years & that last was when I was the passenger in the Bee. I'm not interested in doing it anymore, like someone else said, you lose the need to do it as you get older. Now if I was at the track, that's a different story.   :D

Well, like 1hot68, I also buried the needle on my original '68 R/T.  The car was new with the original F70X14 Redlines and seemed to handle the speed fine.  Man, that was a looooong time ago.    Bob

150+ in a 73 Charger SE with a hot 340 I swapped out of my Duster. On a very long straight highway in Alberta back in 78.

144 mph + ticket states in my '69 SE charger. Had a 444 stroker in it w/2.76 gears. Also got caught, 5 Sheriffs stopped me, well I pulled over since they were not going to catch me anytime soon. I wasn't trying out run them.My buddy Brian who was with me, got to walk home, as I was taken away, he smiled and waved, its funny now,but not at that time for me. There is a thread about this somewhere else here also that members tell there stories as well. Lost my car for 4 months impounded.

Hey, you can hate the game but don't hate the player.

Red Ram

142 with a Petty Experience race car on Las Vegas Speedway...if you let off the gas for the slightest moment on one of those cars you'll lose a lot of momentum (high gears). 135 with a street car, 76 Corvette. Driving that fast on a public street was just plain dumb, you're putting yourself and others at risk, but I was young and stupid...glad the tires held!

I've only hit around 115, admittedly...
