Anybody gonna watch the grammys tonight just to see the police reunite?  I herd they might stay together for a world wide tour or something?

There is a tour coming. There are dates at Fenway already being mentioned.

When I was in high school back in the early eighties, I had three rock bands that I practically worshipped in order of greatness; Journey, Rush, and the Police.  I had three "flair" buttons on my senior band jacket to show my love of the three groups.

I took it pretty hard when first, the Police broke up in '84, and then Journey, a few years later.  My love of these groups has never waivered even twenty years later- though I stopped wearing those buttons after graduation.  I'm happy to hear that the three blokes have patched things up enough to sing for all of us again.  I hope Stewart Copeland has given up being such a smartass to Sting and Andy Summers.  Sting and Stewart fought like cats and dogs a lot.  I'm glad to see that with age comes grace.

I will record the Grammys on the DVR and skip through all the hip-hop assenine garbage, and find my way to the reunion.  I'm sure it will be worth wading through all the other useless noise.  Besides, the wife and I will be watching "Despirate Housewives".

Battlestar Galactica comes on tonight too.  Now THERE is a good show!

The Police are one of my all time favorites. I was only 10 when they broke up, and so never got a chance to see them live. I'm looking forward to seeing them play tonight, and will be one of the first in line if/when they make a full North American tour!! :yesnod:

Naw you were too young to appreciate the Police in their proper context,..
Because when they came out ska bands were getting more play like the specials and such.. and the police had the perfect blend of studio and live rock to reggae,..  the newest kid on the block in the early '80s.. kinda' like a glossy Clash at the time, cause the bands were pretty much all lumped togeather until a few years on where their true musical genre or true musical roots... and the Clash were revealed as being truly political while the poilice went merely Pop,.. XTC blew them out of the water when they came on the scene, the only folks that stayed with the police though to the end were chicks at work listening to office friendly radio where Sting reinforced their groupie fantasies...
I saw Sting with his so called "jazz" band in the mid '90s and though his band was stellar with Michael Stern on guitar whom i also saw with Miles Davis a few years previous for the "man with the horn tour. Stings' material was most defiantly not "Jazz" it was "adult contemporary rock" certified to offend no one... and sell the most recordings kinda like Santana these days.. but I digress...
I saw The Police at a Halloween concert with Iggy Pop, around 1982 and I  was less then overwhelmed with their musical direction with that "Ghost in the Machine album,.. But, their was one thing that would later provide me with the knowledge i needed to expand my musical horizons and direction. Andy Somers used a primitive floor syn th to trigger bass notes for the live show perfectly recreating the studio material with only three members in the band. So, A few years later i began researching guitar synths because of this and over a period of ten years i learned to manipulate a Roland GR-1 (introduced some years later) to add other instruments and various special effects to thicken my bands sound...
No Small feat, which I owe a thanks of gratitude to Mr Andy somers and Mr. Adrian Belew...
For me personally it was a highpoint of my admittedly brief musical career when people were consistantly asking where the piano player was...

I hated the Police when they came out, especially the song Roxanne. By the 3rd or 4th album, they kind of grew on me to the point where I thought they were okay. I did like Ghost In The Machine album, & thought it was recorded really well. I went to see them at Shea Stadium with a coworker in the early 80's, but that was a nightmare. My Charger had bit the dust & I had to borrow a car to go from New Jersey to Queens, New York.

Joan Jett opened for them, but I got there too late to see her & didn't care anyway. By the time I got inside, I realized that the seat I had in the upper deck on the 3rd base side of left field was really gonna suck wind. The stage was all the way out in centerfield & I didn't have my binoculars. It was hot out & I couldn't see shit, so I went back inside the corridor & watched it on the closed circuit TV & left early to beat the crowd.

Some of the solo work by Andy Sommers & Sting was good. Sting seems to surround himself with a lot of good musicians & that makes a difference. He had a guitarist named Hiram Bullock on some of his work, most memorable track was Little Wing (Jimi Hendrix song) I had seen Hiram Bullock with David Sanborn a couple of times & he is an incredible guitarist. Mike Stern is another guitarist I like & had seen him with Miles Davis too. The only stuff I heard by Andy Sommers without the Police was with Robert Fripp from King Crimson. I have the "I Advance Masked" album which is really great.

I'll pass on seeing the Police in the future, the stadiums aren't cool at all.   ::)

i might have been too young, but other than 'every breath..' and 'roxanne', I never heard anything that I would consider half decent...especially that very gay 'eee ooo" song...whatever it was called.

I just want to say one thing about the band "Police" and their 20th or is it 30th anniversary -I don't give a S..T!!! The Police sucks, always have, and always will, they are just another overrated band... "Every breath you take and Ladi ladi daa"... I wish Sting would choke singing those lyrics...

..and that other song what ever its called.. "Roooooaaaaaxaaaaaan" Jeez :violin:

My :Twocents:

twilt

"Be my Girl-Sally" was a humorous song off of their 1st album. Its worth a listen just for a good laugh.

Comparing The Police to The Clash is a travesty. The Police were a pop band pure and simple. Bland and boring  :puke:

Don't stand so close to me ( both versions )
Message in a bottle ( great message on lyrics BTW )

Donna Summers and The Clash were around at the same time as well....should we lump them in together too?  :icon_smile_big:

The Clash were socio-political punk......The Police were mindless MOR drivell.  :flame:   Flock of Seagulls had more street cred than the Police  ;) :nana:
