2008 Challenger - will they blow it?

Been reading some of the new articles about the 2008 Challenger. Does anyone know if they plan on marketing this thing as a higher priced / lower volume car (aka Chevy Corvette) or if they want to market it as a lower price / higher volume car (aka Roadrunner).

I think if they target the wealthy market like they do with the Corvette, its going to be just another sports car, and won't have much impact in the auto world. I really hope they make a progressive move and market it as a high volume car that high school kids and grown-ups alike can afford and enjoy.

The cheap price of the Roadrunner and the Charger helped to make these cars legends!

Heres a cool link to a 2008 Challenger car -- that 392 sounds pretty good!

Yep. They'll blow it. There isn't a single doubt in my mind. They have a great concept that has been met with near universal excitement. They'll find some way to buck it up, for sure.

The Brampton plant is going to make the Challenger and they are looking at 30,000 units the first year. The plant will still lose its third shift  and be laying off 900 employees.
So you figure what kind of price they will be asking for a run of 30,000 units.

1969 road runners 84,510 units

not going to chase into Viper production, but the Challenger will not be free.

Yeah. Lots of people want them. I want one but that doesn't mean that I will a)go out and buy one b)be able to afford a new car. It has to be priced "resonable" (i.e.$25000 base to $35000) or it won't have a market. If Allpar has say 2500 threads where each individual thread was made by different people stating that they want one and have the cash up front. That's only 2500 people not 30000. I say screw up. ;D

I figure $45K decked out the way most people want it... 6.1 hopefully 6 speed.

All the wannabe's won't be able to afford it ... me neither.

take all the popular forums: style, moparchat, here, moparts, cudachallenger all put together and it would be a miracle if more than 25 or 30 people total bought one.  everyone love to say "I would" but when it really comes down to it, and it's time to put money on the table they don't pull the trigger.

At $25-35k there will be many people who buy them at 45K only the privlaged.

also, consider that while everyone likes to compare the challenger to the mustang, the mustang is really not much of a performer.  spend 25-30k on a mustang and you end up with a car that you have to put a supercharger on to make it as fast as a camaro that was discontinued 4 years ago.  moral of the story, I would not expect a car with the performance of the challenger to be under 35k.  One thing that could hurt them is that you can buy a new vette for under 50 and be running around with 400hp under your foot.  my brotherinlaw just got a coupe, z51, pretty much as stripped as a vette can get, for 44k with tax out the door.  he did get GMS pricing through a buddy who works at the dealer, but still quite a deal.  start putting the challenger at 40-45K and it does not look like such a deal.

They will blow it, it's DCX isn't it? They are changing the wheels already because the wheels on the showcar hit the 1/4's. and once the changes start.... Secondly, it will be another rich man's  toy like the Vette and Viper.Performance cars today are not built in numbers and priced for the masses. They are used as a status symbol for the wealthy now.I personally don't want one. They are more ugly than the orignal. They have too much useless garbage on them like traction controls, nav system, power windows, etc. When they start building a bare bones, all business car like a Road Runner was, I'll buy that.
