Did chrysler make 4 spd cars with A/C???

I was always under the impression that if you got a manual trans car, you could not get factory installed A/C.   ???  I just saw this car on ebay which says it came with factory A/C and it is a 383 4 spd car.  Thing that confuses me is the engine is painted orange like an HP car would be since this is a factory 4 spd but A/C car engines were painted turquoise.  Is this car even legit?  The build sheet is mostly covered over by undercoating also.

Yes you absoultely could get a 4 speed & A/C....383 car only though.....currently have 5 in the registry

That car was on ebay in VT back in 11/05....new owner cleaned it up quite a bit & added the redlines...it was a color change to black back then as well

Heres the tag from the previous 11/05 ebay ad

The 330 horse 383 was available with A/C, but the 335 horse version was not supposed to have A/C. Ma was afraid that the free-revving 268/284 degree cam would allow the engine overrun the A/C unit.
When you ordered A/C in a runner or Bee it wasn't advertised but you got the 330 horse engine.

Ah ok.  I guess the orange engine threw me off too.  Never knew that about the a/c and the 4 spd.  Learn something new every day.

Actually out in the Southwest desert region, some cars got A/C's that were not supposed to be available. I believe that they were considered add on and not coded as A/C cars since the A/C was not functional from the factory (no compressor, lines, condenser, etc.), but they had A/C dashes, A/C heat boxes/blowers, and A/C firewalls but not A/C button controlls. All the other stuff was put on by the dealer.

I've had a few of these cars over the years as I won't consider owning a car without A/C (it gets over 115 here sometimes), so I have always sought out the A/C cars. I once even ran across a 440+6 Superbird that had, for all intents and purposes, factory A/C that even had the air cleaner modified for the compressor in a way that looked factory (correct raised edges, etc). Unfortunately I couldn't get close enough on price to buy it (dealership lot), but I've owned plenty of 4-speed big block cars over the years, and with only a couple exceptions, all had A/C.

I guess it's the Southwest deserts version of Mr. Norms cars, though not quite as rare since several dealers did it to increase sales.

First time I'd heard that, learn something everyday. Was that the same for 1970?

Not exactly what you were asking, but I have a 1969 Barracuda Formula S 340 4-speed convertible with factory A/C. So, yes, you could get high performance Mopars with a 4-speed and A/C right on up through 1974.

:iagree: Pretty much the only exception was the 440/4 speeds...
Seeking information on '69 St. Louis plant VINs, SPDs and VONs. Buld sheets and tag pictures appreciated. Over 3,000 on file thanks to people like you.

A whopping 14 are registered with us in 1970. You could even get the A36 Performance Axle Package with the pistol grip and A/C.  :yesnod:

In '73 a Roadrunner GTX would only be a 440 auto, if you wanted a 4-speed, it was a 400 4-speed Roadrunner

Just talking about how a 440 4 speed was hard to find for '73s Chargers, GTX's, etc.
