here's a thread from www.allpar.com
bob sheeves is the resident engineering expert BTW:
The short version is the German management is blaming Chrysler Dodge Jeep (CDJ) for their problems and say they ain't worth keeping.

"Mercedes is seen as the core," said analyst J|rgen Pieper at Metzler Bank. Looking at investment banks' average valuation of DaimlerChrysler's businesses, "Mercedes value is $40 billion at least, and Chrysler's is zero."

I sure hope so. I hope the Germans point the finger at Chrysler, cut it loose and sell it back to American investors.

Big Lebowski

Don't know, but one look at the 4 door Intrepid replacement makes me want to pee in the circleling drain. :yesnod:
"Let me explain something to you, um i am not Mr. Lebowski, you're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the dude, so that's what you call me. That or his dudeness, or duder, or you know, el duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing."

I truly do hope they spin it off as a complete entity. There are rumors of splitting it up and selling it off piecemeal. Of course the rumor mill will work overtime in the upcoming weeks.

My thoughts exactly..... make it an American company again!

It will likely go bye bye all together if they drop it it should have never been sold off.
Who's going to buy it? nobody.

As long as corporation's continue to operate the way they are giving multi million dollar bonuses to management and half billion dollar golden parachutes to execs and screwing the workers and not paying the pensions.

Or sell it to Toyota, Honda, Renault, etc.

Chrysler won't be spun off because one man is dead-set against it.  The only one in the organization who actually KNOWS the value of Chrysler and that is Dieter Zetsche.

-agreed, but he is human and not infallible, nor irreplaceable. Another shareholder's revolt, another 1/2 billion golden parachute and...... ;D

and I'm sure that old Kirk Kerkorian will have an opinion one way or another.

There certainly have been rumors of a spin-off, but I doubt we'll see it in the near future.  And the company as a whole is doing fairly well, especially considering some of its competition in the automotive industry.

That being said, I recently sold my stake in DCX after almost 4 years.  I bought at $28 and sold at $64 (not to mention the fat 4+% dividend), so I think I did very well.

If Kerkorian get a hold of Chysler, you'll have Chrysler's built by Chevrolet and Jeeps built by Toyota.  Kerkorian is a slicer and dicer.

ya' know fellas the Chinese have been buying up "brands" with some history here in the west and then use the  brand name for market penetration...
So where alot of folks probably here wouldn't buy a Chery, they would buy a Chrysler...

Funny you mention that, as DCX has teamed up with Chery.  A Chrysler-branded Chery may make it to the U.S. market within a few years.

I don't think so fellas.

I may be speaking out of turn here but...

I ran across an article posted in another forum that got me thinking. The major problems "ALL" these auto makers are running into is that they are completely out of touch with the consumer. Time and time again they tweak the same old design and throw a familiar badge on it. Its the same car but just a different name on it.

I can understand the economics of some of it with re-tooling a plant for a new line or product but in the long run, the consumer will get board with it and just go some place else to get that something different. We aren't a bunch of drones for crying out loud.

The article has to do with Ford trying to resurrect the Taurus by just slapping the badge on a different car that had horrible sales and adding a few modifications hoping the consumer wouldn't notice. It made me think about DCX and the new Charger. (ducking for cover)

Too many cars look the same now days, it's no wonder why the average person couldn't identify a car in a robbery, or hit & run, etc. There is just no Imagination or innovation in these people unless your talking high end cars. They have nothing to offer the average consumer looking to get from point A to point B with a little dignity or individuality.

Anyway... Here it the Ford article...  http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070206/ap_on_bi_ge/ford_taurus_revived

Got a great laugh out of the Ford master "plan". Hummm 500's not selling at all. The Taurus was a great seller, but we canned it. If we remove the 500 badges and put Taurus badges on it, do you think they'll notice?

Saves all that costly R&D of new model development.

what about them changing all the Lincoln/Mercury names to letters...
   anyone know what they are?..

I didn't think so...

Not that I am a Ford fan, but I tink fords cars have been better in the past 2-3 years than the ones 5-6 years ago. I mean the Fushion(sp?) is much better than the Contour, the Focus is better than the Escort. Then again what where they thinking with the Freelander and the Sport trak ? JMO

Personally I'd like to see Chrysler go out of business. This won't happen, but it would be nice. I can't imagine buying anything that they have produced over the last few years. DCX kept the name in business, but they think that putting a huge "crosshair" grill on everything will keep the buyers happy --- Yeah right!

The Challenger is much to little, to late (I have never been a fan of E-bodies anyway), and how a 4,000+ pound "pony car" is going to pose a threat to that market segment is so weak that he future is painfully obvious to even the most hardcore Chrysler "Cult members".

DCX should do the decent thing (like Chrysler did to AMX when they bought them) and kill the line. That way us enthusiasts can maintain a bit of dignity with our cars that represent a mindset/era that gave us some of the finest cars ever produced. Otherwise, we will be forced into a situation that causes us to apologize for the junk that is offered now, and in the future, while trying to state that it wasn't always this way.

Let the company die, and let the legacy enjoy it's "rightfully deserved" place in history.
