Found these in my oil pick up. Not the wrench. :smilielol: Anyone know what they could be from?

Looks like a timing chain gear to me......  not good :rotz:

I just replaced the timing chain and the old one had steel gears. I assumed it was original but now that I think about it would the original set be plastic? The other black parts look like valve stem seals. I'll be replacing them anyway. I hope that explains everything.

Valve stem appearing ones could actually be your (I know Im not gonna get the name right here but Ill use my personal dictionary or thingamabober) Valve boot.  This is a rubber boot under your valve springs that prevents oil from getting in your explosion chamber.  Im sure its not impossible to get down in your oil pump but ive heard of crazier things. But dont take my word for it,

That's typical/common on un-rebuilt engines. The nylon timing gear material usually started cracking off at about 60,000 miles, and the stock rubber valve seal umbrellas usually weren't far behind. You will also usually find bits of rock hard valve cover gasket, and other miscellaneous "mystery chunks". The debris gets pulled into the screen of the oil pickup, and remains there till the pickup gets replaced.

Since these items got replaced several times over the decades, the debris in the bottom of the pan on virgin engines can look like a junk yard, but usually didn't ever cause a problem.

I've pulled out/replaced pickups that had so much debris in them that it seemed impossible for oil to flow through them, but the engines had good oil pressure.

What's always most amazing to me is that those little pieces don't get mashed to bits (tinier bits) when they pass through the crankshaft windmill on their way to the bottom.

Thanks for the input guys. It didn't occur to me at first that the original timing gear was nylon. I do know the motor smoked a little when first starting up so I was planning to change the valve stem seals anyway.
