No brake lights

Car just got painted and now I don't have brake lights.  I have tail lights and turns signals.  Where should I start looking for the problem?

Who pulled what appart start at rear lights and check earth, globes and all wires,brake light switch at brake pedal when ever i get things done to my car i pull it appart and put it back together myself.

Yeah, definitely check power coming into the brake light wire while someone else depresses the pedal.  Start there and do both sides and work backwords.  Sounds like it could be a wire terminal maybe got sprayed with paint where it shouldn't have.  I had to rewire my brake lights as well when I first got my car.  Could be brake light switch too as stated above.  Were they working before the paint job?  If so, last thing fixed first thing broken, in this instance, the paint job.  In other words I'd look for power and overspray before i'd go to the switch.

year ?... depends of year, wiring is different so there is different points to check against turning/hazzards lights system.

For example, 71/74 for a while hazzards are working, then brake lights are cut and is not posible get brake lights with hazzards, for a while 69 and earliers you can get brake lights WITH hazzards on.

70 even being a 2nd gen, hazzards where moved to steering column, same as ignition switch, so on this specifical point 70 is more similar to 3rd gens than 2nd gen

Car is a 1972
My painter pulled it apart and I help with reassembly. I'm The car was not fully assembled so I hoping it was a ground issue.  I'll find out tomorrow when I pick it up.
I'll check the terminal in the trunk to see if it got paint in it.

if you have rear turning, rear hazzards and tail, then is not a paint or ground issue, since turning and hazzads use same wires and terminals than brakes.

power runs from fuse box up to brake pedal switch on a pink wire, then goes to turning switch in a white wire and then is directly routed to green and brown wires up to rear lights inside turning switch

When you turn on one or another side, turning switch cuts the white source to the blinking side and keeps the contact to the other side making the non blinker lights still works with brake pedal, for a while the blinking side is being feeded by the wire coming from turning flasher located at a side of ashtray what as far I remember is black ( can be wrong on color )

On hazzards, does happen similar, but cuts completelly the white wire source and starts to bee feeded by pink wire coming from hazzard flasher located around steering column brackets.

So, to start to check you need to be sure you have ALLWAYS POWER no matter ignition position because is a direct batt source on pink wire up to brake pedal switch.

Then press pedal and check for power on white wire of steering column turning light switch as input, and brown and green wires as output to rear harness. If you have input on white wire and no output on green and brown, then turning switch could it be damaged ( or wires ).

No power on white wire is cut white wire or damaged pedal switch.

No power on pink wire at pedal switch is damaged wire or fuse. Is the same fuse that feeds dome light, Map light, glove box light, courtesy delay time light at ignition key.

Thanks for the help Nacho.  I have turns and taillights so I'll start with the white wire and see what I find.  Good information.

forgott to say, green and brown and one and the other side REAR... tan and light green are front turning... of course both green are same side and both "browns" are the other same side.

Being the darker colors the rears then those are just the ones you need to check against brake light pedal.

Darker and lighter colors are to check on front and rear turning and hazzards.

Took my test meter with me to pick up the car and everything was working.  The car was not fully assembled when the brake lights did not work so I'm not sure what the deal was.
