Timing set gaskets - a couple questions

1) What is the chrome sleeve and pink tube for? Also the large felt washer. They all seem to be connected to the seal but I didn't take any of these parts off the motor. Maybe they are for another application?

2) Is any sealer required on the rubber seals at each end of the oil pan? If so what? RTV silicone came with the gasket set. Also I guess its OK to cut off the tabs that I don't need. I think mine only needs these tabs at the very top of each side.

Thanks in advance - Roger

The chrome sleeve is called a "speedy sleeve" and goes over the snout of your harmonic balancer.  It is used to make a smooth area where the seal runs if it has a groove worn in it there.  If there is not a groove, I wouldn't use it.  If you do use it, be very careful when installing it to not damage it.  It is thin.  The small tube is probably some lock tight type of sleeve retainer of something like that.

Use a little RTV sealer on the seams of the gasket to the seal.  Too much will make the rubber seals slide out of place easily.

weird that hte kit doesn`t have the correct  rubber banana with just 2 tabs
the felt ring will sit behind the damper infront of the timing cover But it is generally used in dusty industrial applications
