Hemi returned to original car ????

I read this story a couple of years ago and my memory sucks so give me a break on this one.  From what I remember the story goes that man # 1 had a original hemi car with a non matching hemi motor in it and man # 2 had a 69 RR with the original motor gone as well.  Man # 2 had Man # 1's  matching hemi motor in his RR.  Galen Glover new of them both and got them connected to  each other.  The story is written by man # 2 and he definitely wanted to get man #1 's car and motor back together and the article was
more or less asking what should the price be to man #1 to make his car a complete numbers matching car.
Man # 2 also was concerned about not wanting to hold man #1 to an unrealistic figure but rather he wanted to be fair (pretty rare attitude today).  He wanted the editors opinion and to see want he thought about asking for a new crate hemi totally installed and set-up in his RR.  My question to you guys is what do you think?   What would you ask for?  Should he do it?   Also my main question is I only read the one article and that was it.  Does anyone remember reading the article and was there any follow up to it on what really happened.  THANKS   ALLAN

I remember reading it but I can't recall the magazine or issue.  I'm sure it was either Mopar Muscle or Mopar Action.  I don't remember ever hearing about a follow up though.

Well if I had your hemi motor in my car and my car was not numbers matching, I would want the same. Buy me a crate hemi with the same build and have it installed.  And then maybe a little something extra would be nice.  :yesnod:   Chuck......................

That was in Mopar Muscle like 4 months back.  The guy then found a huge stash of Hemi stuff, and an original Sox and Martin Barracuda remains out back of the guys shop.  I believe it is the one with the 70 Hemi Challenger on the cover.  Oct 2006 issue I believe.

Sounds like my story about the Hemi have and the body I found... but I won't bore you guys with that old tale.

First I heard of that story. I did hear of a Hemi Superbird not to far from me that was recently reunited with it's long lost #'s engine. I think Galen was involved in that deal too. The owner of the Bird was looking to sell the non #'s Hemi engine.

We had a "reuniting" right here on this board.   A member posted pics of a '69 440 engine he scored.   He posted pics of the VIN stamping as well.
I checkec the VIN in my database & turns out it was another members '69 Charger R/T!
I put the 2 in contact with eachother but sadly the new owner of the engine did not want to part with it.... :rotz:

In this situations the idea is to put the least amount of duress onto the party that is making the offer. Here the number 2 guy is willing to give number one his original engine back. To be completely fair the guy getting his engine back should return number 2 guy's car back to the exact same condition that it was in before the swap. Now add up the costs of that and determine of those 1/4 numbers are worth the effort to the car number 1 guy. If to have a numbers matching engine is worth absorbing those costs, then that would be it.

But given the checkered history of Mopar crate engines, I wouldn't take one unless a reputable machine shop stripped it down and went over it with a very very fine tooth comb.

Also does number 2 want the original dual quad setup? Stock cast iron manifolds? These are big coin items. Those numbers still worth the price? To want something that bad, the guy is either a true purist or looking to flip the car.

What Devil may be referring to is an article in the December 2006 issue of Mopar Muscle. The article is titled "They come in threes" and starts on page 70. I don't believe though that it is the same story that 70dodgecharger is talking about. His story sounds more like what Just 6T9 Chgr... was talking about and I remember seeing that on the board. But I do also remember a very similar story which I think appeared in Mopar Collectors Guide. Who can dig that one up?

That's it.  Sorry, I didn't have any of the magazines with me and couldn't read the titles.

Mine just involves the Hemi have in the garage, and my father's 70 Hemi Cuda...

If i remember correctly he found the hemi from a 1 of 4 69 RR convert from that yard and reunited it with the car, as well as a couple early super stock hemis...cool story..

i remember a story in one of the mopars mags about this guy found a 69 or a 68  F8  HEMI   roadrunner witch had been stored in a coal shed for 30 years i think .  it was missing is HEMI & 727 .  he found his original motor in a cuda race car that was for sale , had to buy the whole car . then later on he found the original  trans . the owner of the  727 said  you can have the trans if you supply me with another hemi one.
