Congrats on the job ! A bit of advise for you, bring a steno pad to work and use it . The last thing a customer wants to hear is "what year did you say that was ?" or "what model was that ? "    I am a parts manager at a local dealership and have always believed in writing down what the customer is asking for.  It builds confidence in the customer that they will get the correct parts, and you will gain and not lose regular customers. Good Luck !

:iagree: 100%   I use to manage a Rose Auto Parts here in Florida. I made all my guys do just exactly that. It didn't take long to start hearing from customers that they really like the change in the store and I watched the numbers go up every month for more than a year till I left.  When the numbers go up it should bring up the paycheck also..

Congrats on the new job. Just listen to your fellow workers and do what you are told before you take control. :yesnod:

You can never check something too many times! I cant tell you how awful it is to get home and find out that someone messed up! So just check everything over a few times before you send someone on there way! Awesome score on that job!!!

Congratulations! No five finger discounts!  :icon_smile_big:

Congrats!

DOUBLE check all requests for any kind of belt.  Then, check it again.  EVERY single time I go to Autozone, they look up my car and give me the wrong belt.

mikepmcs

You can work at 14 legally in Canada.

Congrats on the job and take the advice above, check and recheck the parts.  Open the box and show the part to the customer so he/she can make sure.  That belt thing gets me every time too, always the wrong one! Customer service is everything!!!! write that down.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

With your multiple jobs, does this then mean that you'll have less time to make your unique posts here?

Damn, what a terrible loss for the site...

almost forgot, start brushing up on asking "what year is that for"  and then backing that up with absolutely no knowledge of what fits what.  master that, and you will do fine in today's "autoparts" store....  somebody needs a starter for a chevy 350?  you will need to know what year and if the car has the seatbelt interlock or you should not sell it.....

:iagree: 102% :yesnod: It's very irritating to be asked "what year wuz that?" 4 friggin' times in two minutes. :icon_smile_angry:
If you pay attention, ask questions (& remember the answers), you'll learn tons of stuff about cars in general that you can't learn in school. Also, if someone asks you a question about their car that you don't honestly know the answer for, it's best to just say you don't know, but will find out...don't just give them what you think is the answer. That only pisses them off & makes them shop elsewhere next time.

Oh & be prepared to "help" install lots of wiper blades whenever it rains or snows. :icon_smile_tongue:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Nah, I just spent 12 years in the parts biz...which is about 8 years longer than I should have, btw.  :rotz:
