Does anyone have detailed pics of a 71 Charger Air Grabber Hood.  I know allot about 71-72 RR Air Grabber Hoods, but don't know squat about 71 Charger Air Grabber Hoods.  How can you tell a the real deal from a fake.  I imagine it would be hard to make a Bulge Hood into an Air Grabber hood.

Here you go!  ::)
Let me know if you want details, I think I have a picture on almost every inch...
The partnumber should be 3482471

Thanks for the pic.  Correct me if I am wrong....but wouldn't it be kinda hard to convert a bulge hood to an air grabber hood?  Satellite hoods are easy to convert, but a Charger Bulge hood looks almost impossible to clone.

road/track

The difference between the regular R/T and Super bee hood and the Air Grabber hood is that the cut out center section is smaller on the air grabber hood, I guess that will be hard to clone, but maybee not impossible. :ahum:
Later years of bulge hood I believe have different air vents, and will be easily recognized.
However there is ways to clone bulge hoods as this kits are available;

hey hooked on mopars, i know of a guy who converted a 73 bulge hood into a ramcharger hood so it can be done. I have 2 regular, non ramcharger bulge hoods (both 71's) they are the "insert" variety but i have no inserts for them. I know of guys who have made a "filler panel" to fill in the insert hole, to make it look like a 72-74 bulge hood (no insert hole)
I would like to take it a step further and make the "filler panel" THEN make the ramcharger inside the filler panel (do you follow me?) i have asked around and was told the ramcharger door was inside the insert hole on the regular 71 hoods. If this i true you could make the filler panel then cut the hole inside that (in the right place of course) and you have your ramcharger hood. Abit of work but definitly doable.

If you have no vision or creative spirit, you can always fall back on the way the factory did it.

a lot more...

Airbox (repro) $300
Air cleaner base & lid (repro)$300
Vacuum hose (repro) $120
Airgrabber switch (repro)$250
Seal (repro) $90
Vacuum canister (repro) $75
(decals, rivets, pins, vacuum intake, hose clips etc.) $75

I'll say it's a much better deal to find a complete or almost complete hood, or second just go with a regular bulge hood, or why not go for -71 bulge R/T Subperbee hood that mikesbbody have? they are cool too. :yesnod:

I would buy the fiberglass repro hood and cut it to fit. Fiberglass is a lot easier to work with and repair than steel hoods.  i would save my bulge hood to put back on later.  Of course it could cost as much as an original, but you could always sell it as a complete assy when you put your bulge hood back on and get most of your money back.  just my opinion

when you look at the additional costs involved by road/track there's another 1210.00 of parts to buy as well as the 1000.00 for the kit! lets not forget the price of the hood you plan to convert a good hood to use for this conversion would be a 72 bulge hood, and a good one will cost what? 600.00+? your looking at 2800.00- 3000.00! you can BUY a ramcharger hood cheaper than that! (dont know if you will get all the extra's needed though) as for the fiberglass option that's one way but they still require work before putting them on there's a compay in canada (showcars) who make both ramchargers, and regular bulge hoods i have heard good and bad things from them its not cheap findin a good bulge hood these days that's for sure!

One last thing is they came with different hinge springs cause of the weight.  Here is mine. http://www.marlia.com/images/engineslide/slides/000170.html

A recent completed listing for reference.  Still needs more parts to complete switch, air cleaner. vaccum lines $$$$$$$$$

even more parts= more $ spent! hey last426, i have checked out your site and its awesome! can you tell us more about the different springs? i have never heard of this before (its true, you learn something new everyday!) is the ramcharger a heavier hood than the regular 71 bulge hood? does that mean it requires beefier springs? thanks mike.

There was an indepth discussion of this a few years ago on another site and if I could learn how in the heck to read a parts book I could explain it more clearly.  At any rate, as I remember there are three different springs for the standard, R/T and superbee, and ramcharger hoods because of the different weights -- I think the number of loops and thickness of the spring stock is what was different.  Kim
