Can a 4 speed pistolgrip be put on a SB 3 speed tranny, i ask since 3 speed are cheap and 4 speed are not

i would think it depends on the year as a pistol grip will not bolt up to in Inland shifter (68) - but should work with a 69 and later hurst shifter

I had a Charger with a 3 speed (on the column) someone converted it to a floor shift at some point before I owned it.  It had an aftermarket Indy Hurst shifter, at least thats what it said on the handle.  I did not care for it at all.  It was always jamming and sometimes it would get caught in between gears and I would have to pull over and pry it back into place.  I am really not sure what was wrong with it, its been so long ago now, but I hated that transmission.  I do love stick shifts though and always planned to replace it with a 4 gear but eventually sold the car.

833 4 speed overdrives are relatively inexpensive. You can find them in 2wd Dodge 1/2ton trucks from the mid 70's up to around 1990. That might be another option for you. I am putting one in my Challenger.

I had a 3 speed with overdrive out of a van in my Cougar. I spent a lot of time and money to make it work especially the shifter. I never did like it. The gearing never suited me. It just didn't work in a car. In this case anyway. I parked it, gave the motor to my son and got a Charger. Now life is good!
