Don't get me started on the whole DOH thing. At least their not using Chargers. The Dufus with the shopping cart should have hopped in it ala Jackass style!

Do one. Nobody's stopping you. Judging by the amount of postings you've done you should be well aware of the DOH debate. I'll leave it alone. Will you?  ???

Just an observation, if someone were really willing to leave it alone they wouldn't have wasted their time posting in the first place.

I want a General Lee just to tick off the people who despise it. :D Honestly, if I were to own a '69 Charger I'd seriously consider making it a GL just because it is one of the most instantly recognizable cars on the planet and a big part of my childhood. Sure, I could drive a Jim Rockford Firebird but that's pretty lame and no one would have any idea what the significance was. Either way, it's my car, my money, and my choice. Same for anyone else who chooses to alter their car from original.

However, none of that has anything to do with this thread. If someone wants to do something foolish out of boredom than that's obviously their right as well. I believe painting things orange with an 01 on the side (and doing stunts) is just an indication of the far reaching recognition associated with the car. I've seen one of those model airplanes in the shape of Snoopy on his doghouse too. Pretty cool if you ask me.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

I forgot to stay with the subject.  :slap:  I've seen some cars that make me feel embarrased for the owners.  :scared: But on the other hand, that's probably the only General Lee they can afford so let them enjoy it I guess.  Overall, I still say it's funny.                Chuck............

My personal favorite TV/movie car EVER is the Charger in Dirty Mary Crazy Larry.

But I will tell you guys that hate the General Lee a couple things.

1. I am also a member of a General Lee message board, the guys that have those cars seem to have MORE FUN with their cars than anybody I have seen anywhere else. Those guys really seem to enjoy the OWNING the car, Isn't that what the hobby is about to begin with?

2. Whether you like it or not, that orange hot rod is a BIG reason Mopars are as hot as they are right now. That car had a huge part in making Musclecars the caliber of collectible car they have become, the first two cars to REALLY take off in the Moar world were the 70-71 Cuda and the second generation Charger. That is the best known TV car ever.

I was watching a General Lee at a car show once and what I loved was the littlest kids pointing it out to their dads saying how cool the car was, The teens were saying "thats the cool car from that old TV show!", and the fathers were just smiling! I'd own a General just for that reason, to bring back memories!  :yesnod:

I beg to disagree.  The mopars are popular today because they were the some of the fastest of the era, they could be ordered in almost any combination the purchaser desired, and had some of the wildest colors and graphics of any car made in the era.  In addition to this, they have been filmed in countless movies that were much more popular than the DOH ever was.  Bullitt, Dirty mary, Vanishing point, etc etc etc.  Even today they are still chosen as the cars to be proven against by new age performance cars, not just magazines but in hero worship movies like the fast and the furious (1 and 2).

I watched DOH when it came out, not religiously but if I was home that evening and it was on, i'd watch it to see the charger in action.  I didn't like people comparing my charger r/t to the GL, I hated the fact that I could no longer use the air horn/dixie tune anymore (had one BEFORE DOH) without looking stupid, and got tired of people telling me to paint a number on the side of my very low production and extremely rare R/T SE.

I understand why some like GL clones, I understand why they are popular, I am surprised it is the most recognized car of the late 70s/80s, there were plenty of other mopars deserving of the same accolade.  I don't berate or talk down GL owners as long as they are faithful to their clone and do it right, and keep it in nice shape, and don't try something stupid such as jumping one.  I jumped two curbs once late in 78, not on purpose, and it cost me a pretty penny to fix everything afterwards, which just made me disbelieve the antics on DOH even more.  Almost shattered 4 rims, wore out both front tires in 3 days, had to replace every bushing in the front end, reweld some parts and get it aligned 3 times to fix that one accident.   Once you go airborne in a charger, you never forget the experience, especially when you hear the crunching noises when it lands.  Word of advice, don't hit a curb straight on doing 50mph at night-don't drive across mall parking lots at night if the lights in the lot are off.

I don't hate GL owners, just don't expect me to fawn over your choice in dream cars, the charger was my dream car long before it was your dream GL car.  And as a good old boy from the south who displayed his confederate flag as a wall decoration in college- yall ruined it for us.
