well ive been thinking about a project for awhile now for myself, busy making other peoples cars nice and nothing for me to enjoy, i do a bit of restoration on british classics, maybe you could all convince me get one of these chargers ,got to admit they look the business would turn afew heads here in the uk, if i can find one here that is...jim

If looking at the cars on this site doesn't convince you, i doubt anything we say is going to talk you into it.  Sure they look good, but so do lots of mopars, fords, and a couple chevvies of the era.  Finding one in the UK though is another story, at least one for a good price, and with the price and octane of fuel there, I doubt its 5/6 mpg on the highway is going to be a good bargaining chip.  We yanks bitch when gas hits 3 bucks, yall get to deal with twice that much, plus it probably wouldn't fit on some of the skinny roads there.

Most of us hardcore charger dudes here would regret seeing another charger r/t leave the country, even if we don't mind brits driving them.  Now if you want to restore or build up a dodge stealth r/t turbo, let me know.  Good luck.

Some of the Chargers are still affordable it just depends on what you want...  Being a body man, you should be able to get a decent priced car if you dont mind doing the work.  There are still plenty of complete cars out there needing restored.  If you cant find one over there, have it shipped.  From what I understand thats how alot of guys overseas have to do it.

well i wouldnt be able to use a charger as a daily driver, not a $10 a gallon, i would like to restore one aand show it i may have to import if i cant find one here i have no idea of the price range atall, ile keep my eyes open there is bound yo be one here in the uk somewhere..jim

jim, charger1973 is right since your a bodyman you have the paint and panel side covered and since it wont be driven everyday its not going to kill you for the gas$ do your homework, find out what year charger you like and go from there personally i really hope you do it! :2thumbs:

mike i love the 68 gti, dont think il get that, tell me more about the 1973 charger, how would i go about shipping one over if i cant find one here, ive only been on this site a couple of days, the bugs bitten already, but then i was a dukes of hazzard fan,,j

73-74 Chargers are probably your best bang for the buck, and if you like the body style, it will grow on you even more.  They are the last of the muscle era Chargers but not as popular as the others, so they are still affordable...   Although the prices are going up quick.  You may have to really look for a GOOD deal but there are still plenty of decent cars left out there to build just do your homework first.  The 68-70s arent such a good project car anymore if you ask me, because they became so popular and there is such a demand for them, that all the parts cars have even turned into project cars now.  Even if you do get one the parts for it will be killer on your bank account.

One thing to remember about the 71-74 cars though is there is alot of parts that are not available aftermarket, so you will be stuck restoring what you have or hunting for good used parts.

jordyjim, charger1973 and nacho know alot about the third gen chargers (more than me) i mainly only know stuff about 71-72 charger's charger1973 is right though, the best bang for your buck is a third gen charger (71-74) 71-74's are the last cool looking chargers (IMO) they changed the shape after 74. despite the fact the 68-70's are probably more popular i think the 71-74's have alot going for them. Feel free to ask any questions, there will be someone here that can answer pretty much anything!

jordyjim

it sounds to me it would be cheaper to pack up and buy a house in america, atleast i would get the parts..jim

mikesbbody

its not always easy finding parts in the usa iether! but probably alittle easier with the third gen stuff there's certain part that everybody wants for example a bulge hood for the 71-74 chargers i still believe you dont have to spend huge $ to get a decent charger and you have one of the biggest things going for you! your a body man! unless you have the $ to buy a really good one you probably have to do what most of us to that is, whatever you can over time ive had mine for almost 9 years and there are plently of guys here who have had them longer than me! just think of i as a long term, on going  project.  ;D dont give up on the idea though!

jordyjim

well. ile keep looking may take while, im sure this site will help me out if i get stuck, gotta talk the wife round yet, there is always divorce if needs be, hope she dosnt read this..heh heh ..jim

One more tip (from another european) if you import a Charger get one that is as complete as possible with as much parts as you can get so you won't have to pay for let's say the shipping of another hood after you already paid for the shipping of the car. Get as much as you can get into the car all the parts and stuff that you think you might need in the future than ship. Will save loads of $$$.
