Are you sure that's what it is? What line is it on?

EN2 would be end of sales codes.(used instead of END sometimes)

First code on top of the tag? If you can get the fender tag off it is easier to read from the back side.

EN1,EN2 and END are all the same meaning........the end of the fender tag.
And from what I remember....1st shift,2nd shift and END is the 3rd. shift.
Don't remember where I read/heard it from but it made sense to me.

69bronzeT5

Top of the fender tag. And I cant get it off.

UFO is correct...late in the 69 model year the code EN2 was used and it stands for for "end of codes; assembly line 2"
The first code on the bottom line is E44, not L44, meaning 318 2bbl engine.

Mine L44: It means the illumination entry system. Im compeltey sure with all the codes except for the E whatever code on the top of the tag. Its by itself.

Then you have a very rare tag...it would be the first one ever seen that has a lighting package code on the tag in a position reserved for engine codes. Got a picture? Sure like to see it......

The E code was explained.

Can't tell much really. If you can zoom in on just the E44 or L44 as you say it might help. I will stick with E44 until proven different.

???

It will look alot more clear this way, just try it.

I asked that earlier but he says it won't come off. It does make it much easier though.

Moms are pretty smart. We should listen to them more often....

Light package codes (L31 on this tag) are in alphabetical order and follow the rest of the option codes.

Ghoste

Your L44 is exactly where the E44 code would be to designate your 318 so if it is an L, then it has just not been stamped properly.  We could all be wrong and your car has some special code in the engine spot but I'd bet big dollars it is supposed to be an E.
As an aside, tags were read from the bottom up and that is why they begin (to our mind) with an "END" code.
