Is this Charger a good deal?

I got this craigslist posting off of here and called the guy. He said the car has all parts, but disassembled with a clean body, other than the fender (in the pics) and a little rust under the back window and trunk floor. It's a California car that has spent the last 4 years inside a garage in Minnesota...

I know if there is rust thats the first no no, he is sending me pics to show me how bad it is (I'll put them on here ASAP). This would be my first car, and I know that everyone says to buy it complete, but if it comes with all the parts am I taking to much on having to assemble it?

Looked solid but I'd have to see the N95 Option on Fender tag to be convinced it's a California car. Seen what looked like N85 but no N95. Could be a Bondo Buggy non California car as Pictures hide a lot. Price sounds a little steep to me? Considering Description. LEON.

I think it's way to high. I bought a 68 last week with a lot of assembly required, but all the body work was done. 383 A/T now a 4-speed, with A/C, no engine or tranny for $6000. BB1
Must be better deals out there.

Mike, I have a line on a 68 charger that is very solid, needs some very minor work in one fender and some around the sail panels. It has been media blasted already, so you know what you get, and the guy wanted 7500 I think. Its from texas. If you interested I can get you his contact info.

It looks like a nice start but I agree that the asking price is a little high.

694spdRT

I wish it would have been a numbers matching car for that price but 4 speeds are bringing more money and it is not a bad color. I think that he might get his price if "ALL" the parts are there. That means the grill, radiator, air cleaner, and other goodies should be there. Original 4 speeds bring at least a 25-30% premium in 2nd gen Chargers from what I see.  I think 10-12K would be a great price but then I would have already went to get it last week when I saw it advertised.  ;)

While the car may may not have been sold new in California it could have spent a lot of time there.  IMO as long as it is rust free I don't care where it came from. Trunks and rear window rust happens in nearly any of these that sat outside for any length of time.

BTW: They made 1335 383 4 speed Charger 500's in 1970 so they are "fairly" rare.

I'd say that price is a good $6k too high.

skip68

I agree with bull.  :yesnod: I would say that's a good price if it was a driver that still needed body work and interior.  :yesnod:  Matching numbers but not original engine? ?  :ahum: Rust free car but has rust? ?  :ahum:  And about 5 to 7k over priced.  :shruggy:  = NO SALE.  My  :Twocents:    Chuck...................

WOW $16,500? It's amazing what some will ask. That car probably couldn't bring 6K if it went on eBay. I would say it is well overpriced. Nice with the 4spd and AC, but I can't imagine that car getting that price. :Twocents:

ps- A car's location in meaningless if it was taken care of. Don't fall into the Arizona or California car sales pitch. A car could be in Iceland, and if it was taken care of, it would look great.

Alot of People will say California car just because they figure this implies solid car which in return will double there selling price/profit. To me this is False advertising. If your car is solid rustfree but you live in Rust City Michigan who wants to brag/advertise Michigan car? Not many. California sounds much better. This California car saying thrown out there all the time unjustly is a Pet Peeve of mine that really Irritates me. Just say Solid Rustfree car. If it is who cares where it came from, Irrelevant. LEON. :-\

Charger-Bodie

i would not base an opinion on the car either way without seeing it , lets face it guys our cars are worth alot of money the days of EASILY getting a low priced charger are for the most part gone , and also it is possible that the car is clean rust free and a great deal or it could be a piece of manure that someone of watched bj thinks is a goldmine but anyway without seeing it none of us can make a fair assesment of the car

welcome !

serously awful experiances come from there..

this is an edit from a post DKN1997 made about halpag...

"some hlpag translations are in order

THE FLOORS WILL NEED EASY PATCH WORK--------------------------->means the floors need complete replacement along with any frame that's under them.

THE FLOORS ARE ALL DETAILED----------------->floors were spraybombed, but definately not even hosed out or vacuumed 1st

ALL THE ENGINE BAY LOOK COMPLETE AND ALL THE WIRING LOOKS TO BE THERE ARE WELL!   lets forget the poor grammar for moment....----------------------->  this means that the wiring is not there or hacked up, "looks to be" is there way of screwing you at the trial...."but your honor, it looked like it was there, we never said it actually was there for a fact"  also notice that they even spraybombed the leaning tower of power, see how they got the upper rad hose?  just put the spray can away, dude!!!

THE TRUNK AND UNDERCARRIAGE HAVE BEEN CLEANED UP AND DETAILED TO LOOK SWEET!  ------------>spraybombed again, no prep

57K MILES ON THE ODOMETER WE WOULDN'T DOUBT BE ORIGINAL! --------------->there we go again, "we wouldn't doubt"  see how they say it without actually saying it?  it would be a miracle if this car had less than 2,000,057,000 miles on it.

WE HAVE DIRT CHEAP DELIVERY RIGHT TO YOUR DOOR! -----------------------> some surly dirtbag will dump it in your yard at midnight after you pay him more than what was quoted.  he will also probably convenienly forget to give you the keys...strike that...knowing these ass clowns, this thing last saw it's keys in the 80's.

and notice how there is no mention of theouter body?  not one word about the cowl, hood hinge area, rear quarters, area around back glass, fenders, doors.  the absence of this is a real red flag for me.  this is there game, by saying fresh paint, they imply that body work is done..because who in there righ mind would put a shiny coat of paint over rust?  that's right, you know who would.....

ok now you've maybe had a laugh and are glad you dodged,... er,.. a bullett..
read this and marvel at HlPags' quality worksmanship colorful and accurate discriptions and father son projects...

I know I've had plenty of help and learned alot from these guys.  ( Now how's that for sucking up ? )   :haha:   Chuck...................

My buddy just said the same thing to me the other day when I told him I was going to look at some Chargers.  He said " Someone in IL has a General Lee for sale.  Needs a motor and transmission.  The ad says they will even deliver it."  I had to slap some sense into him.  Then I went and bought my 73s.

It would seem that the asking price is a bit steep. I agree with bull that it's about 6 G too much. Keep looking you'll find the right one.

Here's my two cents,  I think a car like this is more suited for guys that have been around chargers their whole lives.  Guys like me and 1hot68, as well as some other members could easily restore/re-assemlbe this car, but if you are new to the hobby, a car like this will drive you nuts.  As far as the price goes, well only 1335 came with 383hp and four speed and I'm sure even fewer with a/c.  Note the car also has the buddy seat and looks like bucket seats with cloth inserts.  Yes I believe it's a rare car and may actually be worth the asking price (provided the banged up quarter is the worst of the body work)  But not for you specifically.  The best advice I can give you is to keep saving your money, and probably lots of it and find a complete running/driving car that you can enjoy first, restore later.  Just please stay away from rot boxes.  You will find a lot of helpfull and knowledgeable people here on this site, but in the end it is you that's going to have to get dirty.  We would hate to see you get burned out with your first Charger.
Just my opinion.
Good luck in your quest.

love the color. if its truly rust free, and all the parts are there, well then maybe. how much does it cost when the parts are not all there? many of us know the answer to that. maybe thats not such a bad deal after all. my 2 cents

I talked to the guy and he was pretty cool, there were some minor rust issues and I think a couple minor things missing, he sent me some more pics if anyone's interested.
