Maybe I am just a sentimental old bastard, but what's the deal with destroying what looks to be a pretty decent Savoy that is in much better shape to sacrifice its frame?

I put the question to our fabricators here.  Couldn't one remake the existing frame using the old one as a pattern, or just welding in the bad areas?  Hell, if those idiots on American Hot Rod could do it, why not here?

Maybe just wishful thinking and too many $$$.

Clean it up and try to preserve it the way it is. That way, it can be a monument to Tulsa,OK's stupidity.
Still looking for 15x7 Appliance slotted mags.....

IMO they should patch the panels to bring it back if they can feasibly do it that way.

But it's stupid to start constructing an entire new car around the VIN# and the inner roof bracing.  If it's gonna take reskinning & re-flooring the whole thing, then leave it alone.

What was so stupid about it?  I thought it was a fun, great idea.  I knew about this thing about 10 years before it was to be uncorked, I can't believe how fast that time went by.

They went with the technology they had at the time...gunite as was used in swimming pools in a concrete chamber.  Yes, they didn't compensate for high pressure leakage or cracks over time.

What they DID want to do is take a sliver of that time, with the contents inside, the historical artifacts, and serve it as a celebration--for then and for now.  And you know what, it worked.

The fact that the car was largely destroyed is sad, and we had all hoped for the best.  I didn't think even it would be that bad.  But the larger purpose was served.  We got to relive and see real history from 50 years ago.

I love the fact that a whole city got behind this, and used a car so emblematic of "forward thinking" and so starship futuristic for the time.

If that is stupid, I'll take more stupid please.

There were times when I passed threw OK when I was truck driving. And when there was heavy rains in some parts of that state flooding wasn't uncommon. Maybee high ground water also. Or, the irrigation system combined with the clay soil that the time capsule was in had something to do with it.

Now, if they could have placed it above ground in a place that wasn't in the way. ;)

Yeah I wished they had, but there is certainly something more mysterious/exciting in terms of burying something...guess it goes back to the pirate's treasure type thing.

Boy, when those cars are done up right though, gorgeous.  Really only bested by the 300F.
