That's what I like to see - spontaneity! :icon_smile_big:
Here's your tag as I see it:

for your tag, start at the bottom left
X - stands for the Charger model line

P - stands for Premium price class (Standard Charger.  R/T has an S here)

So by looking at this, we see that so far we have a standard Charger.
Next is the two digit body type codes:

29 - 2 door sports hardtop (all Chargers have this)

Next we have a  "62" , this is the engine code for a 383 HP 4 barrel.

Next we have a  "5" , which is the transmission code for a 3-speed automatic.  aka a 727

Next, is the tire code which appears to be 58.  I'm not sure what that is.

The next three digits is the scheduled production build date for the car.  "A"  in this case stands for October 19
The next six digits are the vehicle shipping number. This is also the number that will be stamped on the body if you have a numbers matching car

Next line up

2 - 5 = drip rail mouldings
3 - 0 = body belt mouldings
7 - 8 = I'm not sure to tell you the truth

A - 4 = 3.23 ratio non sure grip
Trim is C6X - Black interior with bucket seats
PNT is for paint but I can't read yours

UBS is for upper door frame colour, buffed paint and stripe designator.  I cant tell what your upper door frame colour was (probably black) but I can see that your paint wasn't buffed (wasn't silver) and your car doesn't have a stripe. Although the standard black sport stripes have been found to not be coded
Next line
A - 1 = 26" radiator
B - 3 = cruise control.
H - 1 = power brakes
P - 6 = rear speakers
R - 0 = AM Radio
S - 1 = air conditioning
X - 1 = tinted windows only I think
a - 5 = buddy seat
b - 4 = bucket seats
h - 7 = hood signals
m - 6 = remote mirror
u - 1 = special order
1968 Charger -currently spread all over my garage!

Thanks man what a day... :P

Back story,... This Charger was on Ebay, and it was close to me (25 min.) A guy has a resto shop there and I called on it. Well the person I talked to was Shawn, a guy who was on CC.Com. He had a post up to advertise a 70 Barracuda GC with a 440+6 and a shaker.

Shawn is a broker who sell cars from the resto shop, The thread was getting a little hot with some members, not liking his take on the GC. Knowing he's a local boy, I did a little defending, but he held his own well enough. Turns out to be a very nice guy. When he put 2 Charger for sale on Ebay, I called him on the primer one. A deal was made, and I got the Charger!

It has 2 new 1/4 on it and a new floor pan, with a 4-speed hump and peddles.

I called my bud Nick @ Nicks garage, and he broke it down, I didn't know at the time I bought it that it was a double Black Charger, no top, Black interior.

383 4V column A/T (now a 4-speed) A/C, Cruz,  8-track 5 speakers, somebody orderd the car that way. Weird having an all BLACK CHARGER

MEAN CHARGER, I'll Call her Black Betty... Bamalammm

Wow, congrats to you!
It sounds like it's pretty much ready for paint then, yes? Did it come with all it's parts?

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

It has most, but I need a fender and a hood, oh and all the Glass. Trim is there, no engine or trans.
The grill is nice and so are the taillights, 2 front seats, no back.

I am going to stick with the 4-speed, and a 383 with 3.23 gears.
Might put disks up front.

I paid $6000. for it. Did I do ok?

God, now I have to change my name!

Sweet! I'd love to have an original black '68, but mine's going to be black regardless. :yesnod: If you go with the 383/four speed we'll have twins when we're finished.

Just say "NO" to vinyl tops. :icon_smile_cool:

BTW, $6k isn't bad at all. I paid $5,500 for mine three yrs ago but it was pretty much complete. "Complete" is nice but usually most of the parts need to be replaced anyway unless it's been babied.

Charger Aficionado

Awesome RARE combo.  Lucky guy!  Do I smell Bullitt Clone???

For a car w/ body/sheemetal work done and a 4-speed set-up.... and 2X black!!!!  You did good!

BB1

Thx Bull & CA ,  ;D I didn't know when I bought it that it was a black car since the primer covered it all but the trunk. When I looked at it, it was blue but the color under was black. That's when I started looking more. I called my bud up and he checked the codes, BB1 black and black; what luck eh!

What a sinister car this will be; I'm going with Black steel wheels too, with dog dish covers.  :mrt:

Someone find me a pic of a finished one Plz.

Great idea on the wheels. :yesnod: I plan on doing the same but I hope to have two sets of wheels, one set of Magnum 500s and another set of black steelies with dog dish hubcaps or possibly just steelies alone. Both will have RWL tires so I'm curious how the plain steelies would look with RWL tires on a '68. I bet it will look very '60s stock car.

Here's a '69 along those lines:

I won't. I've seen too many jagged-edged "moonroofs" caused by vinyl tops.
