Here are some pictures from the North East Hemi Owners Association Meet in 1978. Excuse the quality. They were taken with a 110 instamatic (remember those quality units?) enlarged to 5 X 7 and stored for nearly 30 years. Was anyone a member of the NHOA in 78? Did you attend this meet? Are you still living?  :icon_smile_big:  Can anyone name where these pictures were taken? First "attending" person to answer corrrectly wins a Ron Popeil's GLH system! (means your old enough to possibly need it).

I hate to burst your bubble but the Charger is mine (complete with Crager S/S mags now considered "period correct") and no it's not a Hemi. You didn't have to have a Hemi to join or to go to one of their meets just like today. What doesn't show in the Daytona pictures is the "custom" paint job. Anyone remember "lace" jobs? Well it had one. Laquer I believe because I remember seeing the tell tale cracking, albeit light in the paint. This was a  426 HEMI, GOOSENECK (period correct term) FOUR SPEED, 4:10 DANA 60, WITH SADDLE INTERIOR DAYTONA CHARGER!  :o  Also you can't see the FOR SALE sign.  The price you ask? $3500 OBO. Yes OBO.  :o  Did I buy it? Heck no.  :brickwall:  Who had that kind of money in 1978? Not me!

That is about the time I joined the NHOA, but I was not very active in it until the early to mid 1980s.  I was in Region IV (Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, Louisiana).  I still have most of the newsletters from September 1978 thru the late 1980s.  I was the Region IV Director for a few years, and later on the NHOA National Board for several years.  I did not attend that meet... BUT, I am still living!  :yesnod: :icon_smile_big:

Thanks for posting the pictures!

Wow - talk about a wayback visit. I was a member of NHOA from around 1977 or 1978 for about 4 years I guess. I still have a the newsletters somewhere. I can across them years ago and spent an afternoon reading them. Roland Osbourne was in charge then - before the split and they went their separate ways.

Me? nah. That's my friend(?) from back then. I was taking the pictures. Now I need to find my pictures from the 1980 and 1981 Street Machine Nationals held in Indianapolis. Cover me, i'm going in.  :popcrn:

Can you say Gabriel Hijackers? Everybody had them and I needed them to clear the L60's in the rear. I didn't like the "ass in the air" look so up went the torsion bars to level it out. A lot of people tend to like that stance. I know I did for years. I have since lowered it to just about stock ride height.

The 69 GTX, barn fresh.  Unmolested since the 70s.

Still has its Hijackers, air hose plumbing, and "shackle extenders" (can't think of a better term at the moment).

Used to be a lot of "hot rods" had the 1/4 windows covered with "scare stickers" (Hurst, B&M, TRW, etc.) as an old engine shop owner used to call them.  Were easier to remove from the glass than from a painted fender, where the racecar guys would put them.

*Speed costs money son, how fast do you want to go, and for how long?"
*"Build the biggest engine you can afford the first time."
*"We normally wouldn't use a 383 for this build, parts and labor for a 440 cost the same."

It's funny..on another car forum I frequent, I see more and more "kids" joining...some of them born in the very late 80's and I think to myself "jeez the owners are getting younger and younger."

Then I come here and see threads like this and think, "Hey! I was born in 1978!"
Then I feel just as ignorant and immature as those "kids" on my other forum  ;D

Hemidoug

Those were good days back then (car wise). Don't ya just wish you could go back and visit? I was 18, had a hot rod and a couple of young sweeties to go cruisin' with. Mixed it up some on the street, made a point of breakin' 55 as often as I could. Hangin' out with the buds swappin' stories. Cars, motors and parts galore and cheep! It was a car guys dream. Most everyone else was into Camaros, Transams and Mustangs. Us Mopar guys were the red headed stepchildren, till we showed our taillights to 'em. That was the fun part, spankin' some dude in a new HO Trans-am with his girlfriend in the car (then hookin' up with her in the future)! Of course the rest of the world was falling apart, but we had fun back in the "old" days didn't we!!!!   :icon_smile_big: :icon_smile_big: :icon_smile_big: :icon_smile_big: :icon_smile_big: :icon_smile_big: :icon_smile_big: :icon_smile_big:

No I didn't see your thread. I don't see a lot of others either. I go down the list like everyone else and look at what I think is of interest to me. Sorry if I offended you. Besides, believe it or not the pictures I posted have been "cleaned" up by me before I posted them. I improved them as much as I could without making them look cartoonish. If you would like a go at them be my guest. Let's see what you can do. By the way I am not impressed with the Daytona picture. Maybe Ted Turner would like it but not me. Too high a saturation level and too high a contrast level as well. But hey, that just my opinion right? I kinda like the "old" look. It gives it a nostalgia feel.  Other opinions?

Does this car have a Corvette style cowl hood scoop on it? Looks like there's Magnum badges on it too. :scope:
