Nacho, you may be able to help with this, as I know you are an electrical genius when it comes to these cars.  My question is, how does the 3rd gen trunk light work?  I have one on my '73 SE and it is not working for some reason.  Is there a common problem for these?

Is a mercury switch inside socket that just turns on when deck lid is opened because the inclination. Is not reparaible as far I know if really is damaged. Be sure you have positive lead arriving to socket. Plug is around driver side wheel well down the trunk matt. Ground is chassis.

Sometimes socket bracket needs to be bend to adjust inclination and turns on at desired degrees.

I never have got ORIGINAL mercury sockets damaged on my car or friends car, however I installed long time ago an aftermarket cheap one to my hood and was a headache getting working good untill definitelly fail. I ended removing it.
