I have been watching/searching for a set of these for a long time.  Should look great on the '68 when it's done.

I want some of those for my ride...I'm just gonna hold out till I can find a plate from the same county that I live in first.  There's a site somewhere that restores classic plates to "as new" condition...pretty sweet

Why are you putting 66 plates on a 68?

Here in Kansas you can antique a vehicle if its 35 years or older. They issue you an Antique plate or you can register your own year plate for it. I have a correct state/county 1969 tag for my 69 and the same for my 71  and a 1947 for my old 47 truck.

I picked up a beautiful set at an antique shop for $25. got them registered for $27, done forever.

Seeing the '68 tag on it makes me think it's like a Michigan plate. I think they did 4 or 5 year runs with each plate. All they gave you was a small sticker to put on the plate every year.

In Illinois you can only use a Vintage tag if it is the same year as the car, you may want to check the laws in your state.

Chris is right.  Back then the plates were run in 1966 and then again in 1970 for ND.  If you bought a new car in 1968, the DMV gave you 1966 plates and 1968 tags.

I still need to check into the particulars of ND as far as being able to use the plates on a daily basis.  I wanted them mainly for display on cruise nights and such, but it sounds like I may be able to use them all the time, if ND rules are similiar to what you guys have mentioned for your states.

Luckily my dad saved every plate that he had. he used these until 79 when they flunked him because they were too beat up. This is the good one. Anybody know the laws for NJ?

In Kansas they made them every year for a while and now they issue plates and stickers for years. There was someone that worked at our court house that collected plates as a hobby. At the end of the year any plates that were not used got throwed away. He just threw them away into his collection. Now they are for sale at our parts store. 25$ a piece for brand new still in the Kansas DOT envelope! He worked there a long time!
