size of driveshaft

need a measurement for a driveshaft.got was to think a 440/727 8 3/4 driveshaft from the junkyard but something wwrong with it.the needle bearing dont fit in the lip of the diff yoke.

Do you mean the u-joint?  There are a couple of differnt sizes there and you can also get cross joints where one size is made for your driveshaft and the other for your rearend yoke.  The two most commonly seen ones are a 7260 which is 2 1/8 inside your yoke and the other is 7290 which is 2 5/8 inside your yoke.
