DOES PLACING A GERMAN/MEXICO POWERPLANT MAKE IT AMERICAN MUSCLE

Okay, here's a thought.  I have thought about placing a modern engine i.e new 5.7 Hemi into my 72 Charger.  But, all I get from my fellow Mopar club friends is that "it's wrong".  They say the new today's Chrysler is mostly foreign and not true American Muscle.  Some of the reasons are "they are made in Mexico" or it's more European than American.  What do you think ??

Ghoste

I think it's fear of change and you should do whatever holds your interest in the hobby.  And that's coming from one of the DCX "merger", new charger naysayers.
There is a lot of room for everyone when it comes to old cars.  Ask your friends this, if you put a 440 into an old Datsun Z and take it drag racing, is that wrong?  (cuz I've seen one)

put a modern technology into a muscle car, is pretty cool, its to get the better of both world

i had a 71 swinger with a 360 fuel injected from a dakota r/t

i put a 360 in it cause i havent the cash to buy a 5.7 hemi :-[

maybe the purist, and me, donc want to destroy a r/t or a original hemi or 440 car to modify it, but when you take a cheaper model, its not a problem to modify it, a my opinion

One of my favs Mopars... I like more 70 because the one piece tail lights and I think different cluster ( not sure ) but wouldn't care a 71

getting back to topic... If Levi's is not anymore USA made... what you expect to the rest, being a Jean so easy to made.

That's Northamerican market guilt, since everything is getting overpriced up there and then industries are making USA products outside USA, because cheaper crews payment. Overprice stuff makes increase on salary of workmen and neverending inflation spirals starts...
Venezuelan RT 74 400 4bbl, 727, 8.75 3.23 open. Now stroked with 440 crank and 3.55 SG. Here is the History and how is actually: http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,7603.0/all.html

Magnum 360s and new Hemis are the Chary 350 of the Mopar world. First of all, they fit without major modifications to the body or frame. On top of that, they have more power, better fuel mileage, better manners and more available parts than much of the original stuff. A big block is more preferred by most people and it looks "stock" but I don't see anything wrong with adding some new technology. Heck, most big blocks swapped into these cars are using modern intakes, cams, pistons, and fuel systems. Do those same Mopar people purchase newer Mopar cars? If so then they are hypocrites. My opinion of course.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

acudanut, its you car do what you want! th engine swap your talking about is quite common and there are many advantages IMO what i dont like is when the car's look is ruined by something that IMO looks out of place. for example, i saw a 72 charger with 22 inch wheels...everything else looked right and im not saying i dont like bigger wheels on every car but that was overkill. It  was U.G.L.Y...

red72chrgr

I wouldn't think so. I'm personally leaning toward a modern motor for my 72. I wanna drive it and enjoy it. I'm just looking around to see how hard it's gonna be. It's your car, enjoy it the way you wanna to.
Nothing personal, just business

ACUDANUT

Anyone done this. How hard is it. What will I need, besides a engine ??

I agree with Ghoste,
Do what you want to make your car what you want it to be.
It's still a Mopar piece, just assembled somewhere else. I own an LX Hemi car, and it's a well built machine...In my opinion. :icon_smile_big:

acudanut i have seen a few cars done in magazines over the past year or two some go into detail re: what you will eed to make the swap i cant think of the magazines right now, but if i find them i will post again if you buy them regularly it shouldnt be too hard to find I know there has been e bodies, and i do recall a 68-70 b body.

The only thing I can see being a problem here is if you have a rare mopar like a 70 cuda it could ultimately hurt the value of the car.  Otherwise I say do it. Its your car it's your decision. Screw what every anyone else thinks. Mopar is mopar and if you can have a car thats got newer tecnology in it and drive it without any worries. I say go for it. but if your looking at showing it at car shows in a numbers matching catagory you should probably think twice.

The only one on this site qualified to label your project a "muscle car" is hemihead. You'll have to run it past him.

acudanut..........................do whatever you want. unfortunately there are allot of members here that do not agree with "modernizing" a mopar. IMO if you do it tastefully and not too radical then you ride will be enjoyed by you and envied by others. I love modern powerplants in mopar's as long as it doesnt deter from the vehicle. I myself this week am transplanting a 6.1 hemi in my charger. and i will get the best of both worlds power and economy. The swap is easier than everybody makes it out to be.  :Twocents: :Twocents: :Twocents: :Twocents: :Twocents:

I suppose if you brought your new girlfriend around to cruise night, the one you had fallen deeply in love with and planned on marrying and having children with, and one of these club members said that she had a fat ass, would you dump her?

After smashing his face with a tire iron, I would hold him down so my "fat ass" chick could kick him in the balls.
