THE CLIMATE IN THE "OFF-TOPIC" DISCUSSION SUB-FORUM

Maybe it's me, but I believe the attitudes and the overall climate of the off-topic sub-forum has digressed to less than what it was.  I have seen, even from myself, extremely heated discussions lately, possibly due to the frustrations surrounding gas prices, and who we all think should be blamed, and recently the Hurricane Katrina crisis, in which we blame either the government or the people in NO for what is happening as of now.

Maybe it is me, but I suggest we should refrain from such topics for awhile to regroup and not allow our personal feelings degrade the concept of this forum in general.  I am not saying that all the members here are having difficulties determining between intellectual discussion from some of the biased personal attacks, because most of the members here can probably do so.  What I am suggesting is based on the fact that I have seen and been the victim of personal attacks such as name calling and condescending remarks.  I do not think either should be allowed or should be stated in the first place.

So, how about we just give it a rest and ask ourselves before we post, "Does it need to be said?" or "Will this offend the person I am addressing it to?"

Maybe we need two separate off topic areas: one for the libs and one for the neo cons...

btw, I'm a lib but I'm not about to argue with anyone on this board about politics regardless how badly I want to.   It's a waste of time.

I like the discussion and debate. I think it's fun as long as we can refrain from personal attacks. Opinions are one thing and attacks are another. Just remember that my opinion is always the right one. :D :D

But we're not all equals -- some have hemis and some, well, wish they had a hemi.  Don't hate me cause I'm a blonde (and have a hemi), zoom.  Kim

I agree.  One of the other boards, I frequent, has a sub category, in the off topic section, named Politics room.  It seems to work well.  Of coarse, they keep the "nasty bashing shit" out.  As I seen with a couple of my post, there are always those who just do not have the intelligence to debate, without attacking.
I used to have a handle on life....but it broke off.
